Loudermilk (R-Ga.) led a group of 12 people through a Rayburn House Office Building on Jan. 5, a group that later grew to 15 people, Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger wrote in a June 13 letter to Republicans on the House Administration Committee. His report confirms evidence that the Jan. 6 select committee said it had last month.
The tour: According to Manger, a group of 12 of Loudermilks constituents arrived at the Rayburn building at 11 a.m. and met with a congressional staffer. The group, which Manger says later grew to 15 people, headed toward Loudermilks office. Though they were out of camera-shot for a while, the group reappeared on Capitol complex security cameras at 1 p.m. in the basement of the Cannon House Office Building, which features several exhibits. While perusing the exhibits, Loudermilk separated from the group and exited the complex through the nearby Longworth House Office Building, Manger noted.
The group continued in the Cannon [building] without Representative Loudermilk, Manger continued. At no time did the group appear in any tunnels that would have led them to the U.S. Capitol.
Manger noted that none of the activity Capitol Police observed on Jan. 5 tours qualified as suspicious or evidence of reconnaissance by would-be rioters.
The shifting story: Loudermilks description of his tour group has changed markedly, as POLITICO has reported. In a radio interview during the Capitol attack, he acknowledged having about a dozen people in his office. Last month, Loudermilk described the group as a constituent family with young children. And a day later, Loudermilk said the family also had some guests that joined them.

(94,624 posts)This is a point people are ignoring. ANYONE can normally walk in to the House and Senate office buildings (after clearing security). There isn't a lot of intel to be gleaned from them for a Capitol Building incursion.

(15,286 posts)They could have been doing anything. The cameras never caught them in the tunnels, but maybe they got directions on how to get there when they were off camera. Any why did Loudermilk leave them to their own devices, apparently completely unaccompanied by even a staffer?
Further, iirc, according to one of DoJ's indictments of the Proud Boys/Oath Keepers, part of the plan was to invade the office buildings as well as the Capitol Building itself. They could have been doing recon of the office buildings for that part of the plan although it never materialized.

(15,286 posts)not necessarily gone to the tunnel entrances. Neither you nor I have any idea what the group was doing when they were off camera.

(81,345 posts)Does that include the gap where they were out of the view of security cameras?
How can they do blithely make a claim like this?

(58,785 posts)feel about their tour, and seditionist Loudermilk, now? What it brought down on them must have been extremely inconvenient at very least.

(5,844 posts)So we have one of the Sedition Caucus lying about giving illegal tours when the buildings were closed to the public, and then leaving them to wander around unaccompanied?
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
Why did he lie if this is so perfectly innocent?

(28,480 posts)No tours were supposed to be happening due to COVID. A tour happened - which conveniently didn't have any kind of sign-in log - a day before the insurrection, given by a loudmouth Trumpist. That's suspicious enough for me.

(2,390 posts)Find out who the 12-15 people were, surely there is some sort of visitor log, and have the FBI INTERVIEW THEM...
Maybe that will sort out this mystery without an answer.

(6,837 posts)Investigate that group, that day and any other persons brought into the complex in November, December and early January by GOP personnel. Are there really elements withing the capitol police who would stonewall an attempt to uncover such information?

(5,812 posts)IMO, these "tour guides" need to fork over the names. Who the hell did they lead through there the day before the attempted coup!

(6,017 posts)169 Reps have their offices there, similar to how Speaker Pelosi's office was in the Capitol building itself.
Just because they didn't end up storming this one doesn't mean the tour wasn't for recognizance.
Did the group meet with any other GOP Representatives involved in the coup or visit their offices while they were there?
