Look at these features in Russia's "anti-sanctions" car

Russian TV is touting this Lada as a sanctions buster.

"Most affordable" is perhaps its only selling point. Due to Western sanctions, the Russian carmaker cannot import all the components it used to. So the "anti-sanctions" Lada Granta has no airbag, no anti-lock braking system, no Electronic Stability Control and no seat-belt pretensioners.

"What Is Seat Belt Pretensioner? A seat belt pretensioner is a device that is used to hold a passenger firmly in their seat just before and at the start of a collision (especially in a front or head on collision) and then allow that passenger to come into contact with the inflated airbag in a controlled way."

Sounds like a handy device to have. Pity the poor Russkies aren't able to get them.

6. Car manufacturers don't brag about them much because they are explosive devices

What they do is cinch up the seatbelt really tight for a fraction of a second before the airbag goes off. The idea is to keep you at the right distance so the airbag, which is also an explosive device, doesn't smash your face in. All of this stuff is pretty well proven and mostly works well, less so for people who are very large or very small compared to average, but for nearly everyone better than being in the same collision without them.

You can polish that turd all you want, but you're only going to have a shiny turd when you're finished. It's still just shit.
