Loudermilk's new excuse, "a golden eagle sconce." Not from the onion.

Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk claims the Capitol rioter he led on a tour was simply
taking a photo of a 'golden eagle sconce' light fixture

"If you go to that stairwell, there's a golden eagle sconce that's on the wall," said Loudermilk. "That's what he was
taking a picture of."

For a look at that puny sconce, when the public areas are chock full of statues, and beautiful architectural details?

Oh my gosh, he’s dumb.

The whole thing is ridiculous. Loudermilk is an idiot.

If I had gone to DC for the first time, met my awesome Congressman (Emmanuel Cleaver), and he took me on a tour of the friggin’ BASEMENT of the Capitol, I would have been so pissed!

The public areas of the Capitol are beautiful. Nobody goes on a tour of the basement.

Oh, Loudermilk…just fall down.

This was way back in the 1960's. Our Senator, Spessard Holland was from my home town and his wife was friends with my grandmother. Dad had set up an appointment with Sen. Holland that morning in his office at the Senate Office Building (not sure which one). It just happened (or had been arranged) that Holland was giving the opening prayer for the Senate that day. So after our little meeting, he escorted our family down the hall to the elevators.

The clerk running the elevators saw a gaggle of tourists in front of a Senator, and tried to shoo us out of his way. Sen. Holland was gracious saying, "They are with me." we went down to the tunnels, walked with him to the Capitol, then he turned us over to a clerk to usher us into the gallery.

It wasn't a tour, but it was cool. The difference is that the Capitol was not shut down for tours at the time, and he just took us on the most direct route from his office to the Senate Chamber. Oh, and we didn't take pictures in the tunnels. My little Brownie camera needed more light.

showed that he was some distance away from the stairwell, in the hall. If he wanted a photo of the sconce he would have gone up the stairs to get near it.

Makes sense that security wise they wouldn't want people photographing the details in the tunnels.
