(82,849 posts)However, the explanation's dependence on unicorn farts, leprechaun toenails, and the former guy's integrity will render it too laughable to be believed. But it's right there in black and white, media reporters: Tell your audience about it without trying to "both sides" it.

John Eastman requested a pardon. He did not receive one. So he pled the 5th before the J6 committee because his testimony would have incriminated him. BUT Rudy, Don Jr., Ivanka & Jared DID NOT plead the 5th - they testified. Think they have pocket pardons?

(4,913 posts)Don't you have to be charged with a crime to get a pardon? How could Trump give a pardon for something that doesn't exist? Are these just in case pardons? If you are ever charged with a crime in the future, just whip out your pardon.

(51,122 posts)Most likely they're talking about blanket pardons which would cover any charged or uncharged offenses up until the day of the pardon. Remember, Nixon was pardoned even though he hadn't been charged:
Proclamation 4311 was a presidential proclamation issued by president of the United States Gerald Ford on September 8, 1974, granting a full and unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon, his predecessor, for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president.
Here's an article about whether a blanket pardon is constitutional
