I've prosecuted a lot of criminal cases in my day. Very rarely is there the evidence of guilty intent that John Eastman (a lawyer no less!) provided. Usually you need to prove that by circumstance, not the defendant's own words. The equivelent of a statement that says "I did it, I'm glad I did it, I know it was wrong but if I had the chance, I'd do it again-now please get me out of this". Let alone pleading the 5th 100 times. Beyond that, there are a couple of things about this- the fact that there was a "list" for pardons indicates that they knew everyone involved in this scheme would need an out. That's pretty damning for the whole cabal. Brings to mind Benjamin Franklin stating "we must all hang together for if we do not, we will surely all hang seperately"-only without the noble intent. Political depravity. No, just outright depraved behavior.

[snip] It was the voice of _______ the novelist...already turning his thoughts to how his life would change after his career ended with an indictment. Even as he had his game face on, _______ was gazing longingly at the view of the aspens Out West from the minds eye, of "that little patch of blue that prisoners call the sky." [snip]
They (GOP) still have the same reward fantasy!

(1,896 posts)Libby was kind of a thoughful guy who got caught up in protecting his boss from scandal. Eastman was part of a Banana Republic scheme that would have been too laughable for an old Mission Impossible episode. What I don't understand is why he kept going when it was clear their plot was doomed-probably because he realized he was screwed. That's why the only way out for him was a pardon.

(25,471 posts)There was some evidence of that today in the testimony. In the recounting of his actions, it was testified that Eastman would attack, then back off and be semi-reasonable, then attack again. I think he was getting browbeaten by Trump and couldn't find the guts to tell Trump off, like seemingly everyone else (other than Drunk Rudy) had by then.

(4,393 posts)among the other turncoats saved from the bars of prison by TFG's pardon(s) in assisting/prepping to support TFG's fantasies of his winning ways, LOL! America got lucky insofar as Pence, who chose to follow his Constitutional duty and was in the process of doing the right thing, and who was merely 40 ft away from those revved up for a more dangerous, violent plot, no longer just standing by but actually answering TFG's call. I think the real heroes were those that thought to grab the ballot boxes and were successfully evacuated so Pence could come back to count the rest of those certified results.
