He didn't want the American public to see the Vice President fleeing from the Capitol.

"I have heard he refused in fear of assasination.."

"I heard" is rarely a reliable source, in any context.

Pence did not want to give the visual that the insurrectionists had forced him from the building.

That said, had the insurrectionists broke into the garage, his Secret Service detail would have rushed him into the car, driven him out, and the agents left behind would have likely produced automatic weapons and gone full Tony Montana-End of Scarface on the horde.

Thu Jun 16, 2022, 04:47 PM
Jun 2022

Pence knew he could NOT leave the Capitol until the electoral voting confirmation was completed. That's why he stayed.

It wasn't that he thought the Secret Service guys would assassinate him - of course not. But Pence didn't recognize those guys who were trying to get him into the car since they weren't his regular detail. Once he left the grounds, Chump would have tweeted telling the rioters to stop and go home. Grassley would have/could have taken over the proceedings and Pence couldn't let that happen. Grassley would have done what Chump wanted, and the gig would have been up.

Just so you know, the SS guys were planning to take Pence to the same secure hiding place where Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell and a a few others were waiting. They would have been safe, but Pence he would have been prevented from completing the electoral voting confirmation. Pence already knew what Chump's plan was, because Chump TOLD HIM, and Mike refused to go along with it.

If Pelosi and McConnell and a few others were gone, how do you think the process would have been completed? You do know it requires ALL of congress and not just the VP. Yes, he could have left the capital. Just as other members of congress did.

Even if the driver wasn't in cahoots with the trump cabal it's doubtful Pence would've gotten back to the Capitol that day to complete his Constitutional duty of counting and confirming the EC votes, and that would've been enough for trump to declare martial law and who knows what would've followed after that with Grassley waiting in the wings.

If he wasn't, who knows what trump and his cabal would've done. I'm pretty sure it would good for trump but not for the nation and Biden who won.
