I have heard he refused in fear of assasination..
No vice President no vote certification.
trump wanted him dead.
"Tim, I know you and trust you but you're not the one behind the wheel."--VP Pence to his Secret Service detail after evacuating his office, refuses to get into his car.

"I have heard he refused in fear of assasination.."
"I heard" is rarely a reliable source, in any context.

(33,587 posts)about the driver. Seems clear he thought he was in danger in the car more than the Capitol.

(22,789 posts)the fake electors would have gave the presidency to Trump.

(4,898 posts)Pence did not want to give the visual that the insurrectionists had forced him from the building.
That said, had the insurrectionists broke into the garage, his Secret Service detail would have rushed him into the car, driven him out, and the agents left behind would have likely produced automatic weapons and gone full Tony Montana-End of Scarface on the horde.

And it makes sense. Certainly more so than the conspiracy theories that people toss around.
Mr.Bill
(24,303 posts)situation and did the same thing. If the SS was really doing what they thought necessary for Pence's safety, they should have been doing the same for Pelosi, and also Grassley.

(33,587 posts)That statement has nothing to do with visuals.
Don't know why some here can't see that.
I think Mike has seen the Godfather.

(59,587 posts)Pence doesn't strike me as well versed in history, but he may know some of the basics of Vietnamese history post-1945.

(32,645 posts)Pence knew he could NOT leave the Capitol until the electoral voting confirmation was completed. That's why he stayed.
It wasn't that he thought the Secret Service guys would assassinate him - of course not. But Pence didn't recognize those guys who were trying to get him into the car since they weren't his regular detail. Once he left the grounds, Chump would have tweeted telling the rioters to stop and go home. Grassley would have/could have taken over the proceedings and Pence couldn't let that happen. Grassley would have done what Chump wanted, and the gig would have been up.
Just so you know, the SS guys were planning to take Pence to the same secure hiding place where Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell and a a few others were waiting. They would have been safe, but Pence he would have been prevented from completing the electoral voting confirmation. Pence already knew what Chump's plan was, because Chump TOLD HIM, and Mike refused to go along with it.

(4,616 posts)If Pelosi and McConnell and a few others were gone, how do you think the process would have been completed? You do know it requires ALL of congress and not just the VP. Yes, he could have left the capital. Just as other members of congress did.

(53,787 posts)Even if the driver wasn't in cahoots with the trump cabal it's doubtful Pence would've gotten back to the Capitol that day to complete his Constitutional duty of counting and confirming the EC votes, and that would've been enough for trump to declare martial law and who knows what would've followed after that with Grassley waiting in the wings.

(4,616 posts)All this Pence couldn't leave the capital. He didn't certify everything alone. Pelosi came back, McConnell came back. ALL of congress came back. The VP doesn't do it alone.

(53,787 posts)If he wasn't, who knows what trump and his cabal would've done. I'm pretty sure it would good for trump but not for the nation and Biden who won.
