Has a Plan'Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is facing criticism after saying that his message to the families of the 19 students killed by a gunman at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school last month would be that "God always has a plan" and "Life is short no matter what it is."
In a May interview with right-wing radio host Trey Graham, 59-year-old Paxton said he would be "devastated" if he lost one of his children, but added that he would tell other parents who lost a child in the shooting that "there's always a plan."
"If I lost one of my children I'd be pretty devastated, especially in a way that is so senseless and seemingly has no purpose," Paxton said. "I think ... I would just have to say, if I had the opportunity to talk to the people I'd have to say, look, there's always a plan. I believe God always has a plan. Life is short no matter what it is. And certainly, we're not going to make sense of, you know, a young child being shot and killed way before their life expectancy."
After the exchange was shared to Twitter by Sawyer Hackett, a senior advisor to former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro, social media users criticized Paxton who, as one person pointed out, "has been Attorney General of Texas since January 2015, only slightly less time than the Uvalde victims were alive."

(16,646 posts)God plans on making the idiots that defend this crap suffer the anguish of the parents, only for all eternity. Hope they understand this in their eternal time in hell.
And no, I don't really believe this, but in their own language, this is what they should understand.

This is Christian theology, in case anyone doesn't recognize it.

(1,962 posts)That is one of the most insensitive and thoughtless things you can tell a person who is dealing with grief, and who has lost a loved one. "God has a plan."
I had to hear that kind of shit after I lost my partner to cancer. Did their words make it any better? Hell no. They made things worse. That hurt even worse. If he has a plan, then he had to take her then... why? "God needs her." Well, so did I! Does that mean anything?
These people really think saying shit like that helps. No. They'd be better off saying nothing than saying something so thoughtless.
I felt the same way when people said that when my mom was killed. And after other losses.
Yeah. Some plan. Cancer. Murder. Gone too soon, as far as I'm concerned.
"Be thankful. They're in heaven." No. I'm not thankful. I miss them.
And I'd have to imagine the parents and families of those killed in Uvalde feel the same way. They miss the hell out of their lost loved ones, and have to thinking "Some fucking plan."
