There is a not insignificant number of Americans who want a dictator.

The lion's share of them are on the right but not all of them. They want a dictator as long as the people they dislike are dictated to. America has never with the emphasis on never and I'm aware of our history been in a worse place.

Trotsky ended up on the run in Mexico with a pickaxe in his dome from Stalin's henchmen.

into his brain, and it didn't kill him instantly. Instead, Trotsky apparently fought the guy after getting hit. His guards heard the commotion and went in to save him.

Mexican doctors operated on him, but he died the next day. Bled out, mostly. Shock finished him off.

He wanted worldwide revolution. Stalin wanted revolution on one country. In the current instance Trump would be Stalin and Bannon would be Trotsky.

Someone comes along and promises “Only I can fix it” and the people fall in line.

We’re at the most dangerous point in our existence as a nation since the Civil War (which never really ended in the first place).

We must remember, though, that once we give up our rights and freedom to that “savior,” we will never get them back.

authoritarianism. It makes them feel safe, even if they're on the receiving end of it. Thus, russia.

Even at the start of our country, something like 25% of colonists were monarchists. I don't see that number changing over the centuries. Problem is, with the help of religion, they get all the funding, and our government is now owned by multi-national corporations and donors. We are no longer a representative-led society. The end of democracy? That was Citizen's United. 2010.
