DeSantis taps D.C. law firm billing $725 an hour to defend culture war laws

money, money, money, money. desantis is making some lawyers very rich.

A conservative Washington, D.C., law firm with deep political connections has emerged as the courthouse defender of much of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ culture war agenda, raking in nearly $2.8 million in legal fees and contracts from taxpayers to defend some of his top priorities.

Florida taxpayers can also look forward to future legal bills over its “Don’t Say Gay” and “Anti-Woke” laws. And someone is going to have to pay through the nose when Disney shows up to treat DeSantis like a rag doll. It’s a never ending cycle of: dubious government action, expensive litigation, humiliating loss, and repeat, where the only ones coming out ahead are the nascent DeSantis 2024 campaign and lawyers boasting deep conservative connections willing to Quixotically push some paper in exchange for public funds.
....
Legal bills have totaled at least $5.8 million in just five cases, according to the Sentinel’s review. That includes $2.4 million for the felon voting law; $1.6 million for SB 90; $848,800 for the social media law; $572,042 for a ban on school mask mandates; and $422,304 for a prohibition on vaccine passport requirements.
...
Cooper & Kirk’s alumni include U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Tom Cotton of Arkansas, three federal judges and Noel Francisco, who served as solicitor general during President Donald Trump’s administration.

I just hope this isn't what we have to look forward to as a nation.

writing Amicus briefs to the court. They would be representing those of us who are being denied equal protection under the law and are living in a state that is creating different laws for different people.

How does government legally break its Constitutional requirement to provide equal protection to its citizens? They can get away with it for a while, the way that my local government tried to ignore private communities from the discourse, while maintaining good relationships with their cronies who lived inside of them.

But, what De Santis wants to do is cut all of us out of his plans to make separate communities that will serve conservatives only. He's trying to bring back segregation.
