A little over two years ago I switched to a new eye doctor and using the previous eye doctor for over 20 years. The previous doctor was not keeping up with my declining eye sight, was the reason I change and the cost was another. Low and behold, I found a great doctor and she is doing a great job in helping me. Unfortunately she gave me somewhat of bad news a year and half ago. I have the onset of macular degeneration in both eyes. Not to worry, it has not been getting worse & they are watching me closely. But my last visit, she found an issue with the my pours in eyes, they were closing up and not allowing the fluid to flow through out my eyes! So I went to a clinical eye doctor in Omaha and they said I needed to have a procedure to open up the pours in my eyes. Ten minutes later, I was in the surgery room(procedure area) and having lasers shot in to both eyes. The specialist said that if I had waited any longer, I would have had big problems sooner rather than later! I couldnt see that good for about an hour and had some mild pain for about 36 hours! But I feel good now and already back to driving at work! I was a bit apprehensive about this, but knowing it had to be done, I am glad I did it! Next up, possibly have my cataracts removed to see better at night! As the saying goes! I can see clearly now, the rain is gone!

(4,673 posts)hereditary in my case and Im so much more fortunate than my mom for whom laser was all they had and she lost her functional vision within a few years. Also fortunate that so far I only need injections in one eye so the other one carries me. Living on borrowed time but Ill take it!

(2,841 posts)My Mom was getting the shots every six. Then recently it was eight and her eye improved better somehow. So now we're doing every 8 and only one eye. They scan both eyes each time so they can catch any relapse.
