Texas's new secessionist platform exposes a big GOP scam

The radical new Texas GOP platform floats secession. That's insane, but don't miss this part: It also comes out for repeal of the Voting Rights Act. Time to ask Texas Republicans whether they think a revival of literacy tests is in order:

Texas Republicans give away the game on voter suppression.

Of all the lies that Republicans have told about the 2020 election, one of the most insulting is the “election integrity” ruse. In this telling, GOP state legislatures passed restrictions on voting across the country not to make it harder for the opposition’s voters to cast ballots, but rather to restore GOP voters’ “confidence” in elections going forward.

The Texas GOP has adopted a new platform that’s generating headlines for its open discussion of secession from the union. But the platform also exposes how that “election integrity” scam really functions. In so doing, it lays bare some ugly truths about how radical the abandonment of democracy among some Republicans has truly become.

The new platform, which thousands of GOP activists in Texas agreed to at the state party convention over the weekend, is a veritable piñata bursting with far-right extremist fantasies. It states that Texas retains the right to secede from the United States and urges the Texas legislature to reaffirm this.

It describes homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice.” It flatly declares that no validation of transgender identity is legitimate. It dismisses all gun regulations as a violation of “God given rights,” and sharply rebukes Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) for pursuing a bipartisan gun-safety package that’s extraordinarily modest.

Pay resettlement money to those who want to leave Texas. Fuck it, enough of the bullshit threat. Much like Brexit, I call for Texit. Once gone, your birthright citizenship is gone with you. If you want back, apply for it.

So now they have to put the petal to the metal to try to win the race to the bottom. Wonderful.

They can't go one day without hating on the LGBTQ's. I'd say "This shit is getting old," but it passed old months ago. Is it a surprise, though? They have nothing. No plans to improve life. No plans to make the state better. No plans to lift anyone up. All that's left is irrational, psychotic hatred...

...maybe it's all they ever had.

Well, you know, Abbutt, there's a real simple solution. A solution to all your problems. You could secede. You could go back to being the lone star nation. And then Biden won't be your president anymore. Just let all the good people of your state leave, and then leave the nation yourselves. We'll get by with 49 states. Especially since under your "leadership" Texas has become a net minus instead of a net plus.

In fact, let's take this idea even further. Why don't all of you rich crazy Republiqans buy your own country? You could call it Drumpfland or MAGArabia or whatever. You can install Drumpf as dictator for life. You can do all the stupid shit you want while leaving the US to the good people who prefer democracy over fascism and life over death.

For the love of anything still good and sacred in this universe, may Beto please win?! Before it's too late!?
