I think he will be a loser again. I think Desantis is a stronger candidate. Chumplike without the baggage. I think Bob Woodward made a great point this morning, even some chump supporters are tired of the whining about 2020.
Dont get me wrong, I am not saying it would be a blow out win for President Biden. It is still going to be a tough fight.
But what is he going to run on? The 2020 election was stolen? Thats not going to be good enough for swing voters. He is undisciplined, even if his advisors advise him to focus on the economy, he will always shift focus to his childish grievances.
He doesnt get the novelty advantage anymore. His botched response to the pandemic is already on record. Even if he manages to stay on track to focus on the economy, the people that rejected him in 2020 are not going to believe he can fix the economy.
We are in troubling times friends, with or without chump, I dont think things will get better for many years.
Yes there will still be rabid MAGATS that vote for him. He will still get 70 million plus people to vote for him. However, the people that rejected him will do so again. Perhaps even moreso.
In contrast, Desantis will have that new factor. I think it may be easier for him to win over wishy washy voters. The people that rejected chump, are likely to vote for Desantis.
Chump losing will also depend on republicans not being able to steal the election through actions of state Govs and SOS. But that will also be true for Desantis and all future elections.
This is just where we are.
It will take decades to undo this damage. I say give me the weaker candidate for the general election. I believe that its chump.

(7,434 posts)DeSantis DOES have a lot of baggage. He's done worse than nothing for Florida-- the first state in the US that will be overtaken by rising oceans. And DeSantis is forbidding any discussion on the one problem that is vital to the state's very existence. And he's pretending that there is no problem at all. Remember that for conservatives, there is no climate change. It's all fiction-- until downtown Miami can only be navigated with a canoe. And then conservatives will be blaming the melting polar ice caps on Democrats.

(15,978 posts)DeSantis losing in November will immediately stop the 2024 talk. If what you say is true, the democratic governor nominee will easily win in November. Thats a good thing.

(1,577 posts)If he would lose to Crist, would the repugs even consider him as a presidential candidate?
