CNN anchor, Laura Jarrett, this morning indicated that they have not gotten quite close enough

to blame Trump. She gave so many excuses why. What in the "hot peppers" is she missing? This seems to be somewhat of a theme on CNN that "maybe it is not enough" to really pursue a prosecution of 45. They constantly try to negate what is clearly outlined by the J6 Committee. Click, changed the channel!

to decide whether to move forward on an indictment. According to Rachel Maddow, there are Federal Grand Jury subpoenas related to the fake elector slates that may implicate the Trump campaign.

We'd all love to see this Mafia scumbag in jail for the rest of his rotten life.

But putting Trump in jail would create a martyr that the Fascists would glorify for generations to come.

To me the biggest and most important objective is to ensure that he is so tainted that he can't win the Presidency in 2024. Because it is very likely that he will run and that he will win the nomination.

Response to dwayneb (Reply #4)

engage in stealing Dems votes by just 'proclaiming' the orange terrorist won their electoral-college tally (and send them to the National Archives for Dec. 14, 2023).

They are evil but they don't realize it.

who aided and abetted the attempted overthrow of our government. Trump is powerless without them and so is the GOP. There must be enough evidence to remove enough of them from office for violating their oath of office and their role in the entire stop the steal, J6 insurrection and their continued law-breaking.

who started working for CNN years ago. Much of her work before that was in Chicago, defending corporations the the federal government wa going after. Although I don't agree with her on this, I do understand that having more documentation than has been made public would be beneficial in prosecuting Trump. I note, however, that the DOJ already has more than the public knows.

It is important to keep in mind -- at least in my opinio9n -- that news hosts are at times tasked with debating the other side of an argument than their personal opinion. By a wild coincidence, lawyers are trained in this, too.

And I don't always agree with Jarrett. She is a tad conservative for me. But I do listen to her, and usually -- even when I disagree -- can respect her opinion. In this instance, I'd note that she is aware that things are closing in on Trump. It woul be good, however, to have someone like Mark Meadows become a meadowlark and sing.

I switched to CNN for the daytime hearings. John King is majorly pissed off at what the Republican Party has become. He had some harsh words after the second hearing that focused on how they pressured/threatened Pence. But I admit I only tune in for the hearings. It's like the media thinks it will be business as usual if we go full-on authoritarian.

...basically, "I heard an opinion I didn't like, so I changed the channel".

Personally, i tend to agree with the CNN commentator; I'm not convinced that there's a solid case to bring to a jury as long as Trump can say "My lawyers said what we were doing was okay".

Especially with a person as thoroughly insulated as Trump is from reality and from legal consequences. It will be a mess trying to prosecute him. And he and his lawyers will be able to block and obfuscate and delay the procedures for months, for years really.

Most of the criminal stuff was done by Trump functionaries, going down two or three levels of organization, all covered with wink/nudge understandings of what illegalities they should do. The American political tradition of protect the principal, to maintain plausible deniability, is working in Trump's favor.

The goal isn't to present a case that would convince a reasonable person of guilt. The goal is to present a case that would convince 12 people who can legally demonstrate objectivity that there is guilt without a single exemption.

Trump did things that I'm convinced are crimes in the Georgia phone calls. But a lot of the things that amount to witness intimidation that we heard about yesterday are, frankly, acts of his unaffiliated fanboys who took it upon themselves to surround Lady Ruby's house with her pickup trucks or phone in anonymous death threats to state and local election officials

I want to see Trump prosecuted. But what do you do when the crimes are part of the national culture? You can't arrest a mob.

As well as witnesses who heard the phone call live and can testify to its accuracy.

That would be enough to convict me.

As for intent, why would he make these calls if he thought he won?
