I wonder how many actual traitors like Robert Hanssen at the FBI (who sold out the FBI to the KGB for cash) would go through the motions, saying the Pledge, or singing the National Anthem.

Who was it who said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" ?

(For me the last refuge is religion, BTW)

And for what it is worth, they aren’t patriotic. Their allegiance lies with their Golden Orange False Idol.

Here comes another July 4. I play in a community band and we do the concert before the fireworks in our town with all the patriotic shit. Now I’m going to be more pissed off than I was during the TFG years about trying to be “patriotic” for a country that hates me and my daughter and granddaughters.
And before we go on someone will sing that horrible song about “I’m proud to be an American where we breathe free”…who’s free??? My blood is boiling already.

It's mandatory for active-duty soldiers while on post - when the national anthem is played, you stand for it. Even at the on-post movie theatre.

If you're out and about on post when the flag is coming down and you can hear the bugle (over a loudspeaker) you have to stop your car, step outside of it, and then stand at attention. If you're walking, you stop, turn in the direction of post command (where the flag is), and go to attention

You're supposed to, anyway. Not everyone does. I'm not even sure if this is true of all military posts/bases. It was true of every post I've ever lived on though - both CONUS and overseas.

But other than that, I don't know of any rule that exist that says you must.

I started boycotting the pledge in third grade.

Spouses definitely serve… their families and their country.

My 13 month stint in Iraq was just as hard on my ex-wife as it was on me. Children of service members feel it too.

My ex wasn’t going on combat patrols, but I can’t even imagine how on edge I would be if a person I loved was doing what I did in Iraq and I didn’t know if they’d be coming home or not.

As a guy who is completely disabled as a result of my military service, I can vouch that the consequences of my military service continue to impact my family 18 years after my time in Iraq.

We stood up and put our hands over our hearts for the National Anthem. We also stopped and were silent for funeral processions. Our grade school was next to the cemetary. We stood at attention and saluted for the 21 gun salute at the military funerals. We all stood up and started every morning with the Pledge of Allegiance.

It was really kind of nice.

We did not have prayer in school in Spokane.

The rightwingers were there. I had friends that belonged to the John Birch Society. Their whole thing was hunting down Commies. And other groups.

Intellectual heirs, the Teabaggers. And here we are today.

Too bad there’s no William F. Buckley today, he’d take these MAGA’s down in a minute just like he did the Birchers.

We had a fun case a while back near Houston in a sundown city called Santa Fe where the SCOTUS ruled that you could do prayers before high school foot ball games

Haven’t been to any games lately?

During the anthem is when people are buying snacks, getting to seats, talking to friends…

No one cares.
