I commend you on being willing to "get your brakes re-aligned," so to speak.
In my pediatric nurse practitioner job, from which I retired a little over a year ago after 45 years in the trenches, I saw many teenagers, and toward the end of a visit, tried to squeeze in a very short bit on taking good care of themselves. I'd say, "You'll be faced with lots of decisions in the next few years. Some get do overs, and some don't. Think twice about any decision that may put you in a casket, a jail cell, give you an incurable disease, or make you a parent before you are ready."
One very handsome about-to-be college freshman said, "I can do better than that. Here's what my dad told me - Stay in school and wrap your tool." We both enjoyed a laugh, and I told him I was going to add it to my repertoire. For young men I felt I knew well enough, I did use it.
