Police used tear gas to disperse people protesting the overturning of Roe v. Wade late Friday at the Arizona Senate building after some of them knocked on the glass doors, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson confirmed to CNN.
Tear gas was deployed around 8:30 p.m. from the second floor of the building, the Arizona Republic reported. Hundreds of protesters retreated as the tear gas floated around the Capitol grounds. Lawmakers inside the building could smell tear gas, according to Democratic state Rep. Sarah Liguori.

Cops were probably getting a little nervous. Maybe thought they had a Jan 6 on their hands.

(506 posts)They were not simply knocking on the doors. The video shows them beating on the glass curtain wall extending across the front of the building, an old tactic to get attention, but someone was shaking the hell out of the glass doors, apparently in an attempt to break the latch. Possibly an agitator. The view of it immediately recalls Jan 6. This provoked the police response of firing teargas into the large crowd from the second floor windows without warning, and then the riot police mustered inside the glass doors as the crowd dispersed. The cops are not seen leaving the locked building.

(11,030 posts)My wife was at the protests around 8 and the crowd was leaving peacefully. This all happened an hour later. And some of the footage looked like the douchebros who get off on the "fuck shit up" part of protests.
