(4,241 posts)Where is it going to pop? And how much will cops need to be funded to deal with it? I'll bet the Senate can pass hippie-punching cop funding pretty fucking quick. These protestors are loud and often carry chalk.

(3,680 posts)I think I will exit the internet for a few days to get away from all the hate. Stunning. And he said this to the first black American president.
I just can't with all the hate.

(58,670 posts)There are a lot of parallels to what happened in Germany in the 20s and 30s.
1. Obstructionism in the legislature, leading to overuse of executive orders.
2. Street violence by the Nazis vs abortion clinic violence
3. Jan 6 could be likened to the Beerhall Putchz or the Reichstag fire
There are other similaritites.
Shirer's book, Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich is an informative read for what the repubs have been doing.
Some things that helped us, though include:
1. "The Deep State" Our democratic institutions are better embedded because they've been in place longer
2. The repubs didn't have its leader for the early years. Hitler was much younger than trump when he seized power
2021 was a close call, and let's hope we can continue to stave off the authoritarians in our midst.
