Of course, Clarence is coming after the LGBTQ students next. Hopefully we'll have the numbers after November to give the Supremes a reason to give it up.

And I agree w/ this, I don't want to have any of my property tax money go to these religious institutions. I have NO desire to support these schools one bit.

THAT is the keystone that is missing.

If the Maine Legislature has now specified how to enforce it and to exclude schools that violate that policy then this is indeed BIG good news!

They won't say they exclude LGBTQ+ students, but for various reasons no LGBTQ+ students will be admitted. They won't meet the strict entry criteria. They'll sue about that, who knows what this court will do about that, but probably not rule on it while leaving an injunction against the state enforcing their rules in place.

The next problem is would you really want your kid going to a school like that. From the sounds of it there's enough discrimination even in more open schools, I imagine that would be a hellscape.

Have you read the brochures for religious schools? “We believe marriage is between one man and one woman” would be enough to prove anti-LGBTQ+.

Sure, you are correct assuming we're dealing with honest people. Do you believe they are? I don't.

I'm pretty sure this court would be fine with actual discrimination as long as you don't say you're going to discriminate.

Exactly what are the 6 jackasses in nice robes going to do? They have no enforcement powers and I doubt this executive branch will play ball. Maine can say they're following Lincoln's precedent in this case because the court has gone off the rails. Same for New York and concealed carry. There is no provision in the Constitution or the Federalist Papers that gives SCOTUS the power to invalidate state and federal law. The state rights crowd believes this to their core, and technically they are correct, thus give them a taste of their own medicine.

From Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address.....

The candid citizen must confess that if the policy of the Government upon vital questions affecting the whole people is to be irrevocably fixed by decisions of the Supreme Court, the instant they are made in ordinary litigation between parties in personal actions the people will have ceased to be their own rulers, having to that extent practically resigned their Government into the hands of that eminent tribunal

On the other hand, when you read South Carolinas secession proclamation they make it very clear that their objection was that the federal government wasn't enforcing the Fugitive Slave act in Northern states. It kind of puts the whole "it was about states rights" argument in the toilet, but it is a great story. So I don't think we can count on consistency from these folks.

They will not pass laws making acceptance of LGBTQ the condition for the money. I can’t wait for a Muslim or Jewish school to demand funding also.

I also hope a lawsuit gets filed by Muslims of Jews or both challenging the overturning of Roe because it violates their religious beliefs and freedom since both allow abortion during the first trimester at least.

for Christians verses Muslims...I don't hold out a lot of hope.

But it will be interesting to see what happens in the Florida Jewish temple abortion case; I think perhaps that will reveal if this court cares one bit about being fair to all religions or only the sufficiently Christian ones.

But the Supremely Religious Court of the religiously insane rules America now.

They get to decide Constitutionality on any law, legislation, previous rulings or executive policy. They are nine unelected petty kings that despite being in control of 3 branches of government, no liberal can change....

SCOTUS gets around to overturning any rights LGBTQIA+ people have. It may not be next, but it's definitely on their to-do list.

I would support tax dollars for religious schools ONLY if they moneu was restricted to teaching CIVICS with textbooks and curriculum federally approved and Constitution-based.
