This idea floated by Ken Olin, "an American actor, television director and producer. He is known for his role as Michael Steadman in the ABC drama series Thirtysomething, for which he received Golden Globe Award for Best Actor Television Series Drama nomination." (quote from Wikipedia).

(7,418 posts)Threat of entertainment biz boycotts have emerged more than once in the last few years. The Peach State's media industry is pretty big, most of it tied to ATL, the South's major metropolis.

(3,629 posts)...this will be a huge issue. "Hollywood South" is one of the more positive jewels in our economy for the last couple of decades, and I am sure this will put a big dent in it as individuals and companies refuse to do business here because of the stupidity.

And oh, hello, Louisiana lawmakers: NJ has already preserved a woman's right to an abortion. They did it a while back, when this was just a threat:

Money is the only thing that will affect the legislatures in those states.

(18,634 posts)Some states give big tax breaks to movie companies so it's worth it for them to shoot there.
Breaking Bad actually changed the location of the story to New Mexico because of the tax breaks they got there.

(2,356 posts)For the moment. As of right now, abortion is not illegal, nor is it protected by law: We have a Democratic governor but the Genitalia Obsessed Party is in charge of the legislature. Governor Cooper will veto any attempt to outlaw/restrict it and they don't have the votes to override him, but they certainly won't pass any bill to protect abortion, either.

Whoever organizes it should be:
a) a woman
b) have prominent contacts in the industry
c) be high profile
Bette Midler comes to mind.
Shonda Rhimes, and while she might be too busy, if she had an assistant who could do it her name, that might work.
Viola Davis, kind of the sae as Shonda.

(2,849 posts)Several posts above make the point in different ways that money talks. In this society, nothing rings more true.
Can you imagine if the NCAA moved the College World Series out of Omaha, Nebraska? Aside from Nebraska football, that's about all they've got. Make sure that the Final Four and the football championship are held in states that are governed by actual humans.
Professional sports... How about the Super Bowl. Oh boy! The NFL already has immense power. Now, they have even more. The NBA and MLB, too.
Professional athletes... They have immense power, too. They have to put on their costumes and dance for the fans on any given scheduled day or night. They could simply say, "NO," until... But, they also have their privacy at stake. It's well known that professional athletes have, from time to time, procured the company of someone or someone by shear happenstance, that is attracted to them. And if it is between a male and female that interaction could result in a pregnancy. We've all read over the years of paternity suits against professional athletes (because the M$M thinks it's big news and relevant to us). If this decision by our present SCOTUS stands, these will definitely increase.
These are but a few things that can be done to counteract this travesty along with a few instances of personal ramifications where the outcome will be vastly different and forced.
I just hope they all take heed.

Why would any company risk that?
