The Red Wing instead of the "right wing".... The Blue Wing instead of the "left wing"

Why does this matter? The “right wing” the “far right”, etc have this subliminal association with being correct. The left always still, in many parts of the world, stigmatized. But even without stigma, a group that has fewer participants.

The Republicans are split between the MAGA red hatted nut jobs and the “never Trumper” sort of fiscally conservative pay the bills before incurring any more debt types. Or the keep government small and out of my personal life types. The few remaining Lincoln Reblicans in this group.

But identifying he MAGA’s as the Red Wing we release them from any subliminal idea of being correct somehow someway.

We even correctly associate them with needless gun violence and forcing birth on people unwilling or unable to produce a child.

I am going to adopt this new language myself and see how it feels.

What does the DU Community think?

of politics, I am tired of seeing this group referred to as anything close to a synonym for correct.

Red Wing is the name of a popular American boot company.

Too positive IMO.

So when they are in charge, it's like that side of the bird has a seizure or stroke and either randomly does crazy stuff or can't remember anything about what they did.

But regular Republicans? Red Wing is good. They still support a lot of the things that are sketchy and that isn't right.

I disagree with much of the Republican platform, but when it goes into ReThuglican territory and they are stealing elections and whatever isn't nailed down.... wait they took some of that too; then they are ReThugs.

When they are acting racist, misogynistic or promoting guns at the expense of the lives of American children, then they are

The REICH WING... Hitler's legacy living in America causing division and hatred to rain down on US all.

No way they'd want the name of their beloved team associated with those assholes.

Thinking about Yzerman wheeling Konstantinov around the rink with the Stanley Cup in his lap still brings tears to my eyes.

I think "reich wing" is the better term for magats.

I’m a Red. This is how I’ve always thought of Red vs Blue:

Another day dawns grey, it's enough to make me spit
But we go on our way, just putting up with it
And when I try to make my feelings known to you
You sound like you have changed from red to blue

You're a father now, you see things in different ways
For every parent will gain perspective on their wilder days
But that alone does not explain the changes I see in you
The way you've drifted off from red to blue

Sometimes I think to myself
Should I vote red for my class or green for our children?
But whatever choice I make
I will not forsake

So you bought it all, the best your money could buy
And I watched you sell your soul for their bright shining lie
Where are the principles of the friend I thought I knew
I guess you let them fade from red to blue

I hate the compromises that life forces us to make
We must all bend a little if we are not to break
But the ideals you've opted out of
I still hold them to be true
I guess they weren't so firmly held by you

But a few of these reddest of states are not in formerly enslaving states.

Idaho, the Dakota’s, etc.

and lots of sound reasons were given as to why it was a bad one.

So, oh well. I’ll keep trying to think of something.

https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/la-et-st-electoral-map-20161102-htmlstory.html

1976:

"NBC’s technicians and stagehands built a map with states made out of translucent white plastic. Lights with colored gels illuminated a state in either red or blue based on the results. The color schemes were based on the American flag and the rosettes worn by the members of British Parliament — Labour Party red for the Democrats and blue for the Republicans in honor of the Conservative Tories."

1980:

"News executives at CBS and ABC derided NBC’s electoral map as a gimmick. But by the 1980 election between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, both networks had come up with their own versions, using on-screen computer graphics.

Viewers who flipped between networks may have become confused as both ABC and CBS filled in the Republicans’ winning states with red and the Democrats with blue, while NBC stuck with its original scheme over the years. The thinking in some quarters was that red was too closely associated with leftist political movements, an image the Democratic Party was trying to shake."

"“Communists were called reds and Democrats were accused of being too far left,” said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics. “It reinforced the stereotype about Democrats that they didn’t want.”

"By 1996, Wheatley, who oversaw NBC’s political coverage, decided that the network needed to be in sync with ABC and CBS. The consistency set the stage for coverage of the disputed 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore, which became a month-long battle over Florida’s 25 electoral votes and the presidency. The fixed image of the hues that divided the electorate in that race led to commentators and reporters describing states as red and blue based on their political leanings ever since."

Don't expect the rest of the world to understand your view of American politics through American TV graphics.
