"Hey, Mark, I've known you for a long time, buddy, you're in deep sh*t," Scarborough said. "You're in the middle of this conspiracy. You may want to get yourself a really, really good defense attorney. To quote Donald Trump, you may want to get one of those. Oh, wait, here's an idea, Mark. You can do something that you've refused to do for years now. You can show courage and you can tell the truth. Hey, Mark, Donald Trump won't protect you. He will throw you under the bus, he will stab you in the back, he will let you rot in jail. Defend the country or, well, get ready to pay a criminal defense attorney a lot of money."

Here's hoping Meadows bumps into his limit.

(6,833 posts)As if the fact that you're "REALLY GUILTY" is nullified by the disclaimer, "good thing you're REALLY WEALTHY". And if you're "in the club", people will whisper cruelly about your reduced state, now that you're broke. "He was always so cocksure. Now he'll see what it's like." "Yes, he will be remembered, a lesson to us all. Don't be stupid, HaHaHa."
Well, it's a good thing that 90% of the people in this country aren't trial judges or being "broke" would be only the first of some, current and past, Republican's worries.
Oh, Icharus. Arise and tell your tale again for the people have forgotten.

(53,791 posts)coup attempt...probably in Nov. or Dec. '20. He didn't, he stayed on and went along with the most incompetent president ever, who came up with the "stop the steal" sham.
Guess the few extra paychecks they got while staying on was worth it, but the coup attempt was never going to work. Even if they had taken over the Capitol and stopped Pence's confirmation of EC votes, that temporary stoppage of the transition would never have held.
There are too many institutional safeguards for such a scheme to work. Come on. Donald effin trump thought that up. Since when did anything he came up with ever succeed?
So dumb.

I wouldn't wanna be him as he's gotta cough up that money now to lawyers, and hope he doesn't have to spend too long in prison.

(61,650 posts)I don't think he is a bright man. I also think it's very possible that Trump has something over him. The behavior described by his aid sounds like he might have been depressed, he might have felt trapped in the middle of something he couldn't figure out how to get out of.

should be stripped of all their assets except for a few hundred bucks and the clothes on their backs,
and immediately have their U.S. Citizenship and Passport taken away, and deported to Russia.

(8,835 posts)the catch-22 to what we are facing this time, is that if the jury is tainted by even ONE Trumphumper, they walk...........
While I agree with you in Principle, even people pardoned are still guilty and should be deported without their U.S. Citizenship or passport. Countless others that are shown to be directly involved will get off if it goes to criminal trial.........
Look at the two impeachments and how a biased "jury" freed him.

(1,670 posts)Ive been saying this since Mulhuer. The conservatives have broken everything. We my have the institutional trappings, but jurors who decide based on what they think the law should be destroy any possibility of justice. The GOP unleashed their law free society 6 years ago, but the institutionalists (Democrats) keep it going because that is what the founding fathers intended.

(12,555 posts)Yes he was found liable in a civil suit, but he's flaunted that. What would we do to him? Who decides?
If anyone in trumps mob is ever charged wouldnt the trial be in DC? Not a ton of trumpers in that jury pool

(1,670 posts)The Simpson case is a traditional "Rich People don't live by our laws" situation. The more apt example was the Mulhuer occupation and subsequent trials. The prosecution failed to get convictions despite the defendants bragging about doing what they were charged with on national television.
That was different, that was a law free society. The refusal of a juror to convict because they decided that they don't agree with the law and therefore aren't going to assist in upholding it fundamentally breaks our legal system. We really don't have a means of correcting that, and in fact you could argue that our double jeopardy laws will be invoked to ensconce the rulings of faithless jurors.
Sorry OJ may be offensive, but it's run of the mill "laws are for the poor" offensive.

(5,810 posts)from campaign funds? Or something along those lines. Guess we know where hell be investing that moola. A good lawyer might sign on for that.

(8,756 posts)From the grifting campaign to get the cult to cough up cash for the Stop the Steal defense bucket. $250 million was what had been reported. Now its close to $459 million. Now they can pay 450 people to lie and cover up.

(14,174 posts)A great way to describe what Trump was dreaming of. This is what he was thinking would happen. His minions would secure the Capital Building, and he'd follow once it was all clear and the police had been taken care of.
And the Swing States with R governors would then declare they were going to replace the electors because of some unseen fraud. And the new ones would simply reverse the EC numbers in his favor. And if it ever got to the SCOTUS, I'm sure he was counting on their loyalty to back him up.
Flynn and his brother and others in the military, many of whom were and are indoctrinated with either Evangelical or Trumpian cult immersion or both, would spring into action to steer them to hold fast, stand down. Until they could "prove" there was massive fraud.
Its scary how close it all was to happening.
