They don't understand what the end of Roe means for this country. We will vote in overwhelming numbers.
A majority of Americans (57%) think the Supreme Courts decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was politically motivated and not motivated by the law of the land (36%). The debate over abortion rights will most likely play out on the campaign trail. 62% of registered voters say the Supreme Courts decision will make them more likely to vote in this years midterm elections. Democrats (78%) are more motivated by the decision than Republicans (54%) and independents (53%).Following-Overturn-of-Roe-v.-Wade-sourced-1.jpg Read more.

(68,595 posts)that high gas prices and inflation are caused by greedy oil companies and other greedy corporations. Some on the late-night circuit...who attacked leadership should have talked about this already.

(13,776 posts)Same for inflation, for the most part. These things are not under the control of the President, but he/potentially she ends up getting blamed for them.
I wonder why gas prices haven't spiraled out of control before now. The companies are literally making record profits and an entirely unrelated entity (that they don't like) is being blamed for it. It's perfect for them.
DNC, I beg you, put out ads blaming the oil companies for gas prices. Inflation might be too nuanced to explain, but the gas thing is in our faces every time we drive down the highway, so please please please, focus on that.

(9,076 posts)We'll have to see how the economy does and other developments.
Americans are a very easily distracted people. If the election were held two weeks from now, I think things would turn around in our favor.
However, when the draft opinion leaked there were protests people instantly forgot about. Seriously, they were gone from major media and social media within 48 hours. Remember March For Our Lives protest a week or two ago? Yeah, no one else does either.
Four months is enough time for people to settle back into their routines. And remember, the people who are more of a partisan liberal bent are already mostly in blue states and districts. What will matter is how much resonance and urgency lasts over the next four months in the swing districts.
I think we can hold the line in November. But I'm not going to say it's any kind of given. As this fades out of the news - and it will, sooner than anyone thinks - and people go back to their routines, the daily stuff creeps back in and takes a more prominent place in emotions and thinking. Most squishy middle people will vote (or choose not to vote) based on how they feel at that snapshot of a moment of voting.
How will those squishy middle types feel by November?
None of us can confidently say.

(9,076 posts)I think grounding in reality instead of wishcasting is a wiser course.
By the end of August, I think we'll have a better sense and ability to pierce through the fog and see a general shape of things.
Right now, I think people are still in reacting mode and forecasting based on the here and now.
Here and now is not what will decide things. Doesn't feel productive to make any declarations with any kind of certitude.
"Donald Trump will never win. Clinton's got this."

(15,437 posts)We're not winning big, come on. Maybe two or three Senate seats we pickup, and at best lose 5 seats in the House.

(68,595 posts)Two would be great but maybe we win more.

(15,437 posts)We might win three Senate seats though. PA is our best bet. I'm just extremely worried about the House.

(15,437 posts)I don't share that view, because of the high amount of people who initially thought that ending Roe meant that it ends abortion nationwide. When I told them that it means that states can ban it but you're fine in NY, their reaction was mostly "Oh, then it's not so bad then!"
Because of the initial confusion, I don't think it'll be the number one driving force. The economy will, and it ain't getting better just yet.

(3,861 posts)I think we'll definitely get North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio. The "most vulnerable" seat, incredibly, is Warnock's and I can't believe there are that many ignorant, foolish voters there to send someone as incredibly unqualified as Herschel Walker to the US Senate.
It's not looking like there will really be much shifting in the House. Given the increase in "highly competitive seats" and the lack of major GOP gains due to the redistricting, I think the House will look pretty much the same. So the Roe factor may push the Democrats ahead by a few.
I think the Supreme Court has done an excellent job helping push a major shift toward the Democrats at a critical time in the election process.

(14,004 posts)We might lose but it's by no means a sure thing for Republicans. The polls have Democrats at a ten point general lead right now. With the right strategy we can retain and even gain seats.

(1,580 posts)There is another post here about Biden appointing a anti abortion judge in Kentucky because of a deal with Mitch. I believe this is a winning issue but anything can derail us. And it actually is as big an economic issue as inflation or gas prices.
Demsrule86
(68,595 posts)voting for then? What other choice is there if they care about stopping the wholesale murder of women. And I see you just had to get the thing about the judge out there now didn't you? Nice try. The bottom line is you either vote for the Democratic candidate or you are voting for the Republican who will worsen the situation...no exceptions.

(1,580 posts)I had just put a OP about AOC criticizing Biden let there be no doubt I am voting Dem. But how are to campaign on this issue and gain momentum if Biden is appointing anti abortion judges. We would have had the momentum but for this.
