-SIGH-
We can't catch a break. Even when we have power, it still feels like we're losing. But fuck that!
I am writing to say that fixing this Country won't happen in a single election cycle. It won't happen in two election cycles. It will take successive voting in each and every election going forward. Making this Country better is going to be a long and bumpy ride. It took Republicans 40 years to get the Court they wanted. FORTY YEARS!
They worked for 40 years to get justices that would overrule Roe.
They showed up until they got Antonin Scalia.
They showed up until they got Anthony Kennedy.
They showed up until they got David Souter.
They showed up until they Clarence Thomas.
Justices Kennedy and Souter didn't overturn Roe, and their response wasn't "I'm never gonna vote again. Fuck the Republican Party. I didn't get what I want. You guys suck."
They showed up until they got Sam Alito.
They showed up until they got John Roberts
They took their hits and losses for 40 years until they made gains to appoint the Court they wanted. Their response to keep getting what they wanted was to keep voting and keep pressuring the Republican Party to be more hard line on the appointment of federal judges and Supreme Court justices and more hard line on the issue of abortion.
It just may another 40 years for us to correct the problem of the judiciary. The message that I want to get out to voters like us is that we cannot pack up our toys, take our ball and leave just because we didn't get our student loan debt cancelled this time around. We cannot throw our hands up on the air because we didn't get what we wanted from Democrats this go around. For us to get the full scope of what we want and what the country deserves requires voting in each consecutive election. That means November of this year, you pack up your student loan debt and you take that shit to polls and vote. Two years after that, you go back to the polls and vote, and two years after that. You keep going to the polls, keep pressuring the Party, keep winning them more seats, and we leave the country in a better place tomorrow than we found it today. We have a country to run! There is never excuse to give it up!

(35,077 posts)Just dont pay.
Dont pay student loans, dont pay medical bills.
Time for a collective debt strike before and after voting.
In It to Win It
(8,254 posts)that seems kinda trivial compared to the mountain of fuckery that the Supreme Court handed down over the last 2 weeks. People will use the trivial issues that remain unresolved as a reason for not going to the polls again and pulling the lever for a Democrats.

(108 posts)People all around me believed trump would not win. There wasn't an urgency in some people. What a shocker when he did. It was just a couple thousand that would have made a difference.
Then look at Virginia. People stayed home and republicans came out to vote. Look at how they were conned out of $200 million by trump on a non-existent election fraud fund. They still worship him. It's a cult. Republicans just turn out. So that's why people need to do what they can: phone bank, send postcards, talk to people around you, and knock on doors if you can.

(108 posts)Is that why Virginia went republican just this past election? Democrats can't just come out during presidential elections. It has to be every one.

Not to say it's wrong, but there's no real support here.

(108 posts)It's frustrating indeed. But people need to do what they can and encourage people to vote. The republicans are doing it right now. They had a voter registration drive at some of the gas stations. And since people don't understand how government works they think Biden has control over this.

Be like Beto and keep at it. He has volunteers going around registering people to vote. Reach out to your local Democratic party.
