(7,646 posts)...your AC goes out when it's blistering hot outside it's only going to make being miserable more miserable...
...keeping cool when it's hot will keep aggression and heat related deaths down and help us pretend everything's ok...
...only trying to help...

(4,553 posts)Sleep also.
We dont have AC and I slept lousy last week during a few hot days and nights.. One day, I spent a couple hours at the local library to relax while reading. They had ac and comfy chairs. Nearly fell asleep. It felt like I was transforming into a human again.
...less than $200 you can buy a small, easy to install, 5000 BTU window air conditioner and cool a couple of smaller rooms adequately...
...even if you didn't get the temperature down real low, just reducing the humidity would make you feel much better...
...it would cost you maybe $25-$30 a month to run a small window unit almost continuously...look into it...
...it ain't worth sweating your ass off for a $1 a day...

(4,553 posts)$200 right now is way too much on a fixed income. And then another $30/month on an already inflated electric bill is just too much. Gas is high and food is ridiculous around here. I nearly cried in WalMart when I had to bey TOILET PAPER. $8 for a package of 8 rolls. One-dollar a roll??????? JFC.
I understand, you are being very sincere and helpful. We have an AC unit that we might pop in the living room window when it is forecast for a long stretch of heat. But, we just use fans and close up the house during the day to shut out the daytime heat and sun.
In the Northeast (right along the Canadian border), we are fortunate that the heat-waves havent lasted too long. I know it will get worse with global warming but we will probably be dead when it gets as bad as the West Coast and other international locations like India.
Be cool!!

(6,265 posts)scared the "effing" hell out of the racist and race purists out here. I am now and will till my dying day know that. President Obama one day, racist, grifter, con man, mob boss the next. Does anyone see fear in this? My new go-to word "effing".

(28,808 posts)but if they were in my neighborhood I'd hire them. As it was I couldn't even find a company willing to guarantee that their techs would be vaccinated, though they complied with my requirement that they be masked in my house. As a matter of fact, the first couple guys who came to give me a quote treated me as if I was almost too stupid to talk to. They'd lost my business within a couple minutes of being here.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess this company is run by men, or at least one man. I love allies.

(30,754 posts)when looking for people to put in our new kitchen. The ones who will start after the holiday are vaccinated. I thought we would need movers to get the appliances out of the kitchen and laundry room. None of the movers I contacted could guarantee that all their workers are vaccinated. The people who are building the new kitchen are moving the appliances for us. They feel as strongly about being vaxxed as we do.
