I did read that sales of fireworks are way down. I also heard that the prices are way up. I live in a low income neighborhood and I know people are really struggling just to make daily expenses. Fireworks are such a total waste of money.
Fireworks are illegal here but they aren't illegal just down the road in Riverside, Mo. No one pays any attention to the laws.

(22,156 posts)and county cracking down on fireworks (STLMO), that this did the trick. BUT...
I like your explanation better, that the fireworks are much more expensive. Also, being that there's a drought in effect thru parts of MO, that it is too dangerous for fireworks too.

(15,465 posts)The dog tries to attack everyone and everything that passes (he's fenced in outside of the house), and the mailman has said he's scared that one day the owner will forget to lock the gate. Well, last year I was talking to the dog's owner, and she said that he cowers in fear under the bed on Independence day! I was really surprised that this huge dog of pure muscle would be afraid of anything sort of a bear.

(9,195 posts)They left the legality of USING the fireworks to the cities. Predictably, most cities have prohibited the private use of fireworks. So, you can buy em, you just cant light em off. An exception is a town that burned down in the 1930s due to fireworks. You can use them there.
Oddly, I have a neighbor on the next block who, when we bought the house 19 years ago, shot off fireworks beginning in early June through mid August. That only stopped when I got toasted one weekend about the Ides of August, went out on my deck and screamed:
ENOUGH. THE FOURTH OF JULY WAS SIX FREAKIN WEEKS AGO!!!!!
Now, when they have become legal to possess (not to use), they no longer shoot them off. Maybe it was the thrill of the forbidden.
