"SNIP.......
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) acknowledged the possibility of a presidential run in 2024 in an interview with ABC News, but said she hasnt made a decision about that yet.
Playbook: You would expect last week to have been dominated by President Joe Biden. The Supreme Court set back the liberal policy agenda by decades on abortion, gun control, the separation of church and state and climate change while the Jan. 6 committee presented its most compelling evidence that Donald Trump may be criminally responsible for the attack on the Capitol.
But it was Cheney rather than Biden who emerged as the face of the opposition to Trumpism.
......SNIP"
Applegrove: Trump beat a slate of Republicans because he was the only Trump. He won the nomination with a minority of support much of 2016. Cheney could run as the only non Trump clone and beat the slate. I don't want her to win. But it is possible. Then Trump red meat voters would stay home.

(43,177 posts)And MAGA wouldn't move a muscle to elect her. She'll be missing 40% of Republicans ... that's (28 million). She might get 10% of Democrats. So she's 20 million short of what Trump totaled ... How will she reach 82 million or thereabouts?

(32,773 posts)President Biden everyday, every hour works tirelessly for our nation. He deserves the credit, but seldom gets it. Mainly because he never needs the lime light to do his best work.
History will show President Biden as one of the best ever!
Screw the media and their shity comments!

(4,371 posts)Trump from occupying the Oval Office 'ever again'....
If he becomes a candidate, her best chance to accomplish that is to launch an independent candidacy, with the support of the GOP "never Trumpers"-- (and likely a bit of Democratic party contributor money coming her way).
I think she's smart enough to realize that she would not stand any chance running against him in the Republican primaries-- it would be a futile gesture-- but bringing a significant split of the right in the general election, would be the best chance of preventing Trump from being elected again in 2024.
Maybe Kunzinger will also run, and they could "cover both bases" between them-- one in the GOP primaries, and one as an independent in the general election...

(111,102 posts)I hate to think where the J6 Committee would be right now if Liz Cheney was not on it and leading. I am certain it would have been shredded and discredited by now. These are going to be the hardest political decisions of a lot of people's lives, in my opinion.

(1,399 posts)This is literally Cheneys Trump card, her mission in life is to see that Donald Trump never never ever gets near the White House again, and if all that work of the Jan6 committee doesnt either result in charges or keep Trump from running then she is going to make damn well sure he doesnt win by running as a spoiler.

(5,843 posts)There are a lot of low-information voters on the Dem side who think she's a hero for her work on the committee.
That's the danger. Her policy platform is EVERYTHING we stand against. But she would attract a not insignificant amount of Dem support just for her work on the committee.
That said, I can't see any challenger to the orange motherfucker on their side who might even be close to successful. Not even DeSatan. The guy doesn't have a personality.
I am hoping that the orange motherfucker will be at least under indictment - or even convicted of sedition - before then. There's a LOT of time between now and the campaign season.

Maybe she will, but she probably won't. Most don't.

(7,282 posts)She most likely wouldn't get the backing of the RNC, but she could run as an Independent...
I wouldn't count an Independant ticket out as a potential to win the support of conservative Dems and of course Independents, and possibly old school Conservative Republicans.
Her extreme views on Women's Rights along with Same Sex marriage, no tax for Corporations, Big Oil, her anti-Environmental policies she supports (and the list goes on and on) could just claim victory in a three way race.
I feel like we're going to be in for a very rough 2024 campaign. I hope I'm dead wrong.
