Whale splashes Norwegian coastguard after being freed from rope - video

Source: Norwegian Coast Guard

Fri 1 Jul 2022 10.42 EDT

Norwegian coastguards rescued a whale entangled in ropes before the animal swam away to freedom, flipping its tail, footage published on Wednesday showed.

The mammal was floating listlessly on the surface of the Barents Sea with its tail trapped in ropes when the KV Bison coastguard ship approached it after receiving a tip from a local ferry company.

Lt Cpt Raymond Isehaug said his team could see the whale was exhausted as it was completely still. Isehaug said he sent a four-man crew in a light boat to help the animal which he believed was a humpback whale.

I really detest portrait mode when it comes to seeing more than less.

Just a personal tic of mine.

Breaks my heart to know how many don't get that ending. Same for sea turtles, birds, dolphins, all manner of marine life.
