Mass Shooting: Several Shot At Highland Park (IL) Parade, Witnesses Say

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Gunfire disrupted Highland Park's Fourth of July parade Monday morning, with reports of several people shot.

Shots were fired about 15 minutes after the parade began, sending crowds scattering, according to multiple reports. Witnesses said multiple people were shot and transported to are hospitals.

"Highland Park Police are responding to an incident in downtown Highland Park. Fourth Fest has been canceled," Mayor Nancy Rotering said in a social media post around 11 a.m. "People avoid downtown Highland Park. More information will be shared as it becomes available."

One witness counted more than 20 shots, the Chicago Sun-Times reported, and at least one person appeared to be covered by a sheet.

The villages of Deerfield and Glenview have also canceled their Fourth of July parades in response to the incident.
