Co-opt the Symbols of Patriotism

Liberals need to take back the flag. We should all fly it with pride because we are America.

Change “America First” to “Americans First”. The rights of all Americans stand before the church or state.

We have to change the narrative.

A patriot is not someone who hates most Americans and our government. A patriot loves both and cares about all Americans rich or poor, born here or an immigrant.

We’re the breadbasket of the world and that is what makes America and Americans great. True Patriots know this.

2. Agree. Use them for what they're intended -- so traitors can't coopt them.

Let them have to use their coiled snakes, swastikas, tRump and Confederate flags, etc, to differentiate themselves from supporters of our western liberal democracy. And to help those who don't think for themselves see a difference.

We have a flag up, but it's only visible to people who come to our home. Except for delivery drivers, they tend to know who we are and what it stands for to us.

3. I could not agree more

The abandonment of the the flag, the anthem and other symbolism allowing the right to claim ownership of them has been a critical mistake and hurts us with swing voters. There is absolutely nothing incompatible with being a liberal and a patriot.

4. It would be a great movement-level move

While it is reminiscent of the "stars on thars" of Dr. Seuss, where competing sides compete with symbols, just imagine it in real life. Somebody says, "this month is 'liberals are patriotic' month," and everyone displays a red, white, and blue flag, either as a flag, a decal, or a bumper sticker, etc.

Goodbye misuse of the flag by so-called conservatives. A lot of "yahoos of the right" would probably remove their flag bumper sticker if they started to notice Black, Brown, Gay, Environmentalist, Vegetarian, etc., folks had them. The typical sweaty-faced "Trump colors" displayers would be stuck with their confederate flags, "don't tread on me" snakes, and that god-awful "Punisher" gopher skull.
