(19,565 posts)If there's a 20% chance or higher of precipitation I water everything like mad. Last week it led to 1.75" in a massive drought. 😂🤣

(34,136 posts)And for those who are concerned about planting or maintaining grass - I had my very long driveway re-routed last winter. While we planted some bushes and trees, we also spread some grass seed to hold the soil in place. Part of it was covered with centipede grass seed, which is a low maintenance ground cover in this area and once established will not need watering. The other part was spread with a mix of centipede and pasture grasses, same deal, once established won't need much watering.
We'd had a pretty wet early spring but once the seed was spread, we had nearly a month of dry weather - no rain at all. So my husband set out sprinklers to make sure we didn't lose our investment in grass seeds - plus we had a variety of trees, bushes and other plants we had put in along the drive that needed water. He rotated where the sprinklers were once or twice daily. At first it was just a couple, but as the drought went on, he increased the number to the point the water pressure in the house dropped drastically (we're on a well).
The day he finally set out all five sprinklers at once, we got 3.5" of rain in a cloud buster.
Oh - our well goes down into the aquifer, which where we are is not in danger of being drawn down.
