but they need to follow the advice of the conservatives who are constantly telling black people that they need to "police" themselves. I believe that most of them are decent, even if I disagree with their politics, but the "bad apple" story seems to forget that the rest of the aphorism is that it rots the whole barrel.

that leads to almost complete opposition to gun control among rank and file police and their unions:

1) Police have been completely coopted at the personal level by conservative ideology. It's somewhere in the mid-80% that now identify as Republican or conservative.

2) Police have been granted near impunity to shoot anybody at any time.

In minority areas there needs to be more people from the neighborhoods in top positions and they need to provide protection to people that testify against criminals. This includes providing them with resources to move to different areas .
