(24,303 posts)That is, if the object is to put fear into the maximum amount of people.
I live in a small town in Northern California and we had such a parade today. Now, let's face it, it's relatively easy for me to stay out of tall buildings in large cities, but we've all been to these kinds of parades, haven't we? Only reason I missed todays parade was the possibility of some rain. Otherwise I go to them several times a year.
I don't mean to slight the effect that 9/11 had on many people, of course. I had family members who worked in the trade towers at one time, but had retired before the attack.

(3,660 posts)As long as we allow political bribery (a.k.a lobbying) and powerful special interest groups like the NRA to keep stuffing loads of cash in the pockets of these politicians we have zero chance.

And if so, what are you going to do about it?

(10,011 posts)amid all the lies and the hatred of anything progressive. I think of the dark days of FDRs presidency in the midst of the Great Depression and the worry that the country was failing. As then, the Republican Party wants the country to fail, wants to see us descend into chaos and murder of one another so the wealthy can get wealthier and impose their will on everyone else. Breaking the stranglehold of the right wing will be difficult because most of the media supports whatever makes the most money for them.

She is right though...and she is, most of the time, right. One would think that by now proclaiming to be a republican would have stopped.
Just let me say this...Latino and republican does not mix well, as a Latina who is in the middle of politics she should not be blind to the fact that 99% of white republicans hate Latinos, and anyone who is not white.

(4 posts)They lied under oath, a crime. Time to grow a spine and play some hardball Democrats. These RWNJ have turned the USA into a shooting gallery with their ridiculous decisions. The majority of Americans want gun control. Doesn't matter if you dont have the votes. You have to put up a big stink and put up the fight to build political pressure. My message to Manchin and Sinema, is the GOP will nuke the filibuster the sec ond they get power. Stop being such naive Goddamned FOOLS!

(3,861 posts)It must be done, whatever pressure needs to be applied and on whom in the senate, whether it is Manchin and Sinema, both of whom claim outrage over Dobbs, or Collins and Murkowski, who might need campaign money down the road, the court must be packed before this congressional session is over.
Mister Ed
(5,940 posts)And the first step is to avoid using the GOP's terms and letting them frame the matter. "Packing the Court" is what they accuse us of wanting to do.

(6,594 posts)New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn., Inc. v. Bruen (06/23/2022)
It struck down NY's "special need" requirement to get a concealed carry permit. Basically, it said states can't impose special requirements to get a permit. It's the "shall issue" principle, meaning if someone applies for a permit the state "shall issue" it unless there's a legal reason not to.
End result, more people walking around with concealed firearms.

(2,036 posts)It's time to do some major tinkering to the First and Second Amendments.
We are up against the country's and the world's most rich and powerful people, who are using the gullible Republican voters to not only keep things from changing for the better, but to make things even worse.
