https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7vmwd/illinois-darren-bailey-highland-park-I've said it before. Illinois is not a blue state. Chicago is blue. Everywhere else is red. And people from "Everywhere else" in the state hate Chicago (and the surrounding suburbs).
Highland Park is full of educated, largely Jewish affluent people and in a Democratic district.

(23,550 posts)In 2001, the Housing Commission and the City released the "Affordable Housing Needs and Implementation Plan." This plan was written to address the decreasing economic diversity within the City, and it created the framework for implementing the Inclusionary Housing Program, for creating the Land Trust (now led by the Community Partners for Affordable Housing), and for funding the Housing Trust Fund. These initiatives have continued to thrive. The City, through the Housing Commission, also operates other affordable housing developments, which have added to the affordable housing supply for seniors and families.
The housing planning activities are carried out through the Housing Commission.

Local activists worked hard on this.

(3,333 posts)Democrats have a super majority I believe in Springfield. It is gerrymandered blue, one of the few examples of blue gerrymandering.
I live in a western suburb that used to be red, but now it's blue.
We haven't had a Republican governor in about 15 years. [Edit! Incorrect!! You dummy (me to me)]

(7,447 posts)everywhere else isn't red. Springfield exists for example.
Second, so what? Illinois is a state with cities and towns. It just so happens that one of them is huge. Chicago greater Metro area has 9.5 million. Illinois as a whole has less than 13 million total.
So...it's a blue state.
We have to stop pretending blue cities don't count.
If we could maximize turnout from those blue cities we could win states like Texas and Florida.

(2,566 posts)I live about 2 hours west of Chicago and there weren't any Democrats even on the ballots in the recent primary elections we're so red. And everyone does hate Chicago. The only Democrats I know that aren't from Chicago tend to live in college towns like Bloomington/Normal or Carbondale.
