Law enforcement did not bring Roof to Burger King. He had not eaten and was hungry when he was being interrogated. Police are required to let suspects use the restroom, feed them, keep them safe, give them water, etc. if they fail to do so, any interrogation can be suppressed as being coerced.

It would have been derelict if the police hadn’t fed Roof and had run the risk of having his confession suppressed.

If the suspect is being interrogated in a county jail and at meal time, they’ll sometimes get jail food, but other times they’ll get better food (fast food) in order for the interrogators to build rapport.

If the suspect is being interrogated at a police station that doesn’t have a jail, or does have a small holding jail, the suspect will almost always get fast food. And so will the prisoners being temporarily housed there until they’re transported to the county jail.

There was nothing exceptional or strange about the police bringing fast food to the interrogation room for Roof to eat. It happens every single day across the country, no matter the race of the suspect or the heinous nature of their crime.
