Does anybody else feel tempted to post something short and mean, and then on second thought, decide it would be better not to?
And have these urges a lot?

(23,544 posts)once in a while someone will point out something I posted that was insensitive and I delete it.

(51,593 posts)I got banned by the jury several rimes until I realized what crosses the line. I don't do Fakebook or Twitter so I am not familiar with the rules.
I still edit or delete many posts before posting them. My emotions are too strong sometimes.

(90,767 posts)But as my comments usually only make sense to me - the connection not being obvious as they are generally a reflection of the associations my own brain makes - I can do it without attracting attention.
Well, that and few people pay attention to me anyway.
But I do try to avoid the truly mean comments and find it helps to type them out and then delete without posting.
Gets it out of my system.
Also, I sometimes post actual truths about myself, but - again - as few people pay attention to me anyway, it doesn't matter.

(9,073 posts)I squirrel in literary references to posts all the time as an alternative to being unkind. Most of the time they go sailing unless someone is familiar with the work. This month I'm on a Dickens kick. A few months back, I was lacing William Carlos Williams into a bunch of unrelated things.
Most of the time it really is just because I think they're funny.
If other people do too, well that's a nice bonus.

(7,809 posts)When I'm in a lashing out mood, I type a response and then I reread it 3 or 4 times to make corrections and soften language. Once I got it out of my system, I delete the post and move on.
Recently though, I couldn't stop myself from blessing out an irritating poster and it didn't get the hide I expected. Perhaps it was reported, but enough people agreed with me to leave that post alone.

(9,802 posts)Or some incredible graphic that is so laden with "MEAN"ing that I can't resist posting it (or creating it, Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk)
And if at all possible, I try to include something positive to help me and others get something out of it ourselves.
Two sayings:
Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. (a certified fake Buddha quote, but true)
Wisdom turns poison into medicine by channeling anger into positive action.
So without further ado:

(38,493 posts)I think we should change the name of this holiday. It's not Independence Day anymore. It's Second Amendment Day. A completely Republican Party/NRA success. Murder, mayhem and Constitutional mischief by Rogue SCOTUS.

(3,337 posts)I generally respond with, sounds serious. good luck.
Began doing that a long, long time ago in my everyday life, and it's become kind of a habit of mine to say that instead of sneering at or trying to hurt anyone.
