Brittney Griner asks Biden to help get her out of Russia in handwritten letter

Brittney Griner personally reached out to President Joe Biden, urging him to help get her out of Russian custody, according to her representatives.

A handwritten letter from Griner, portions of which were made public, was delivered to the White House on Monday. In it, she expressed fears she will be held in Russia "forever."

"As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I'm terrified I might be here forever," Griner wrote to the president.

at exactly the wrong time. The Russian build up on the border of Ukraine had been in the works for weeks and Russian authorities knew the invasion was imminent when she tried to enter the country just as she had done year after year for several years to play with her Russian team, probably with a very small amount of a thc substance that's legal in many US states.

Wrong place at the wrong time. I hope the president can get her out but we know it won't be easy with Putin's war not going that great.

Which makes it that much worse since she is accused of attempting to carry those drugs back with her. Why would she? It's readily available in many American states now.

There is essentially nothing that he can do to help her. So now he's going to get blamed for not getting her out.

Is it far fetched to consider a scenario where Putin’s thugs dictate a letter, ostensibly from Ms. Griner, pleading for help directly from the POTUS? May be designed to make President Biden appear weak and impotent when efforts to secure her release fail.

are working on it. It may take awhile, but I have no doubt Griner will eventually be released. When you get involved in these kinds of conflicts you have to expect situations like this. It’s a chess game.

I found it interesting that she wrote in that same letter that she hadn't ever voted until 2020. Wow.
