The US is moving rapidly down the same path taken by Germany in the 1920's-30's . . .

. . . with the same outcome awaiting us:
-- Marginalization, even violence, against "them"
-- A "re-educated" judiciary
-- Brown Shirts roving the streets, breaking up non-MAGA meetings, attacking election officials
-- Elections turned into a farce with the outcome pre-determined
-- No regulations on corporations
-- Labor unions outlawed

We are sleepwalking into fascism and we have only ourselves to blame:
-- We ignored the Powell Memo
-- We thought Newt's "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control" was silly
-- And we are still practicing reaching across the aisle, compromising with the Devils

Our new passports were delivered last week. Because of my Swiss ancestry, we are visiting the Swiss Embassy/Consulate in DC next week to investigate moving for our last years.

The Allies understood that media concentration aids and abets fascism. But Goebbels could only have dreamed of something like Fox News and the hermetically-sealed media ecosystem of the far right.

and we have to remember that radio was the most important communications/media tool for decades before TV. By making them widely available at nearly giveaway pricing the Nazis were able to rapidly establish the dominance of their propaganda. Fox used to literally give TVs to hospitals etc. as long as they agreed to keep them tuned to Fox. Gush Limpballs used to give radio stations his program for free in exchange for a cut of station ad revenue. The cut wasn't that onerous and the AM stations got programming at little cost to themselves. If you were a person in the '90's who traveled for a living it was not unusual to be in the eastern half of the country and literally almost every AM station of any strength would have his hateful spew on for 3 hours a day all at the same time. So it was like no escape. Gone were the chances to hear farm reports, gardening shows, advice shows etc. While those could be found it became more an more rare. The long and the short of it is that broadcasting hateful spew grabs weak-minded people and gives them the hate to hold onto. Hitler and his crowd knew it and were the first to use the electronic medium to drive it home.

...the state of the art in the 1930's was broadcast radio, and broadcast quality sound recording technology didn't exist. They did take over the media that did exist, including newspapers and magazines and creating programs like Strength through Joy and the Hitler Youth.

Presciently, when Sinclair Lewis wrote It Can't Happen Here about a fascist takeover of the US in 1935, he had the Windrip administration pour a lot of money into research to create a national TV network years before it happened in the real world, because propagandists understood that if you have a powerful orator like Windrip, it was essential to get him out in front of the people as much as possible.

I feel what you point out on a daily basis. By the time normal, rational people finally wake up and realize what kind of country we now live in, it will be too late. You are right to look into leaving. I think about going to Canada frequently.

inquiries in 2016. It is more difficult to move to Canada now than in the past. Many countries have gotten more restrictive. Most want to see you have a job or means of support if you are staying longer than a normal visa would allow. Used to be we in the US would be welcomed with open arms in many countries. I also checked out Ireland. Same sort of thing. About the only workable plan for many would be to go from country to country until one visa period was up and then go to another etc. Maybe a person could figure out a recurring set of moves. Might be costly though.

If not, you really should.

We ARE moving towards the same fascist ideology and in the same manner. All you have to do is open your eyes and you can see the parallels.

I don't agree with everything in the OP but our country is following the same path as Nazi Germany.

Can we stop it before it's too late?
