July 5 (UPI) -- With gasoline prices still high, but declining, some users on social media called for a national boycott over the holiday weekend.
The proposal grew out of a video on the social platform TikTok last month that called for drivers to boycott gasoline nationwide From July 3 through Tuesday to coincide with the July 4 weekend.
"People are trying to organize a boycott, and hopefully that will bring the price of gas down. This has been done before, it has worked before," the creator of the video said.

Since the video was posted, the price of gasoline in the United States has steadily come down. The national average rose to a peak of $5.01 per gallon in mid-June, according to AAA. On Tuesday, the average was $4.80 -- a slight decrease from Monday and a decrease of 8 cents over the past week.

Hope that's a trend though I doubt it.

That's 5% roughly. Crude is down 16+% in that same timeframe.

(3,167 posts)Gas around here (NW NC) is about 25 cents per gallon cheaper than it was 2 weeks ago. The most expensive gas I saw in town was 4.69. Now that same station has gas for $4.45.
Funny - oil peaked at over $123 per barrel in March, but it took the gas 3 months longer to peak.

(82,849 posts)I think we're all familiar with the one station in town where the price of a gallon is anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar a gallon higher than its competitors. Boy, did the people gassing up there get their time in the spotlight the last couple of months! But the only people getting any heat for escalating pump prices were the Biden administration. Even as oil companies posted first quarter profits in the billions (and the second quarter is likely to be just as good for them), the major media couldn't find anyone to talk about that. Likewise, for all the predictable yammering from Republicans, none of them were asked (and none of them volunteered the information) about how to keep our domestic oil in the country instead of sold to other countries at the highest price the oil companies could get.
As pump prices begin their slow descent, this story will slip away from the national news. And we won't hear any more from people who made their lifestyle choices without regard to the price of gasoline, and who are taking it in the shorts when prices go up.
