DOJ Sues Arizona Over New Law Making It Harder To Register To Vote

*snip*

https://www.politicususa.com/2022/07/05/doj-sues-arizona.html

The DOJ noted that Arizona is a repeat offender in trying to make it more difficult to vote, which is where a full restoration of the Voting Rights Act would be very helpful. The Department of Justice has so far lived up to Attorney General Garland’s goal of protecting voting rights as a top priority.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich argued that the DOJ is trying to undermine state sovereignty, “Is the federal government attempting to undermine our sovereignty and destabilize our election infrastructure? I hope this is not your intention.”

Southern states during Jim Crow used similar arguments to the one offered by the Arizona AG to try to stop African-Americans from voting.

The proof of citizenship requirement is a violation of the Voting Rights Act, as Republicans demonstrate that their only path to victory at the ballot box is to keep people from voting.

Keeping 'the wrong people' from voting is the only way for them, as always.

Note that I don't mean people who aren't citizens (or at least a legal permanent resident) should be able to vote ... but their goal here is to make it HARDER, to make it more EXPENSIVE, to make it more COMPLICATED ... because their research tells them that RePuQ voters will 'pass all the tests', and make the effort to complete a series of complex steps in general ... more consistently than non-RePuQ voters. It's just math and stats really.

Remember that the last two POTUS elections were decided on less than 90,000 votes, spread over 3 states, basically.

I'm sure the M$M will carry their water in general here and fail to explain all the reasons WHY there's a real problem w/requiring documenting your citizenship in order to even register to vote.

The country has been, in many ways, on an Honor System when comes to voting, wherein the threat of YEARS in jail for lying ... has consistently shown to be highly effective in preventing non-eligible persons from casting ballots illegally. There really isn't a problem w/the existing system, but the PuQ's desperately want the public to believe there is. They want you to think some people are so dumb they'd risk deportation and/or years in jail ... just to cast ONE BALLOT out of thousands or millions.

Very, VERY few people are that f***ing stupid, but the GQP wants you to believe MILLIONS of people ... are.

It's a con, obviously.

One purpose of putting radical Republican extremists on the court is to take away the shield of established law and substitute support for anti-democracy tactics.
