While we keep hearing a lot about how Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is supposed to be the anointed GOP candidate in 2024 if Donald Trump doesn't run, or is (ahem) otherwise occupied, like if he's throwing trays of prison food at the walls (don't get your hopes up), we aren't yet seeing much speculation about the Democratic ticket. That's mostly because it seems pretty likely Joe Biden will run for reelection. But if he chooses not to, polling has already pretty consistently shown Vice President Kamala Harris doing especially well against DeSantis. A recent Yahoo News/YouGov poll even shows her running about even with Trump, with both Harris and Trump getting 41 percent.
Yes, this is where we remind you that, four months before this year's midterms, it seems pretty daft to be talking about polling for the 2024 presidential race, and any numbers out there represent vague impressions, not an outline for what's coming. Heck, by the time the 2024 primaries are supposed to start, America may already be under martial law after Canadian peacekeepers march in to save us from ourselves.

(12,321 posts)beating up Pres. Biden is the goal.
Mad_Machine76
(24,436 posts)it looks like Biden is beating DeathSantis and Trump as well, so why all of the dooming and glooming about him running in 2024? I know these polls are only speculative at this juncture, but it upsets the narrative that the media is trying to create around Biden potentially not running in 2024 and/or that we need to ditch Harris if he doesn't run for some reason.

(24,436 posts)Especially since he hasn't even hinted personally or publicly that he's not running in 2024, so I don't get all of the media speculation unless it's (probably) just for the media to fill empty airtime and perpetuate an aura of "crisis" and "doom" for Biden and Democrats in general.

(16,121 posts)misogynistic and racist nation. She covers both of those bases.
Even around here, I see "people don't like her" or "she's unpopular" coupled with support for whichever white man is in vogue at the moment.
We won't see a woman president in my lifetime, but I'm getting older, so maybe some day, or not, because it is likely that the right wing will be able to choose presidents and all elected officials without the bother of counting votes in the near future, since the supreme court is working on ending democracy.
Today, I am not feeling optimistic. In a few days, it may change, but today is not that day.

(17,310 posts)To start writing, emailing, posting on social media just what in the hell MSM is attempting to do to our
Democracy by running Biden & Liberals down. They have first hand knowledge FailedCoupGuy & Rs
attempted to overthrow our government. You know the MAGA movement leans toward Fascism.
Why in the hell does it feel like you're on Rs side to install a Fascist government in the United States?
You are aware the first thing Fascists go after when in power is journalists and news media to silence
them? Why do you want to cut your own throat?
The upcoming midterms will determine if "trumpism" gets a larger foothold in our government. You want to
see angry MAGAstanians protesting outside your offices yelling "FAKE NEWS" and kill the messenger?
Who in the past has called you Fake News? You trust them?
The current R party has to die for Democracy to survive just like well known Rs like Bill Kristol, The Lincoln
Project and others have said. Are you listening?
If you refuse to help Liberals for a change, I hope you enjoy being told what you can and can't write
or say.
I could probably write a book on this subject but I'll stop here, you get the idea.....
WE NEED MSM TO STOP THEY'RE BOTH-SIDESISMS and paint Biden as a good President who needs more
Ds in Congress to stop Fascists from taking over.

The criminals can not win a popular vote in a national election. They have no bench. None.

(58,785 posts)And of course. Obama's 8 years in office were 8 years they worked ceaselessly to defeat HRC as his successor, and they barely, barely succeeded. With Russia's assistance to all competitors and enemies.
Speaking of, we already elected our first woman president by a large popular vote margin, even though a little procedural issue kept her from office. We're still here. So why would anyone imagine the same people (plus a bare handful needed of others) wouldn't do it again?
Especially when enormous variability and volatility have been demonstrated in what can be elected.
The 100M people who insisted we'd never elect a black president right up to the day we did failed to keep up with reality. Like the first woman we elected, he didn't just come close but won by large margins. Another reality is that the people who elected Obama twice are, again, essentially still here.
The 81 million people who elected 77yo Candidate VP Biden essentially signified willingness to elect our first 82yo president if he is up for a second term. They're still here.
Briefest mention of electing/helping elect depraved orange criminals... Those people are still here also.

(58,785 posts)as opposed to those who look for a leader to follow and be inspired by. Dems are easily the most honest campaigners as a group. That tends to be very limiting rhetorically compared to opponents less bound by truth, but it reflects what the large majority of Democratic voters expect.
HRC's a huge, enthusiastic policy wonk, always wanting to explain in adult words, lots of them, what she'll do and why, how she'll do it, how to pay for it, etc.
Oh, well. Sigh. As you say, HRC earned the popular vote. In contrast, leading alternatives conned, inveigled, inspired, thrilled those drawn to them, MAGAs and idealists alike, into emotionally committing to them and trusting promises that "only they" could do it.

(32,086 posts)They're trying to figure out who to anoint as the 2024 GOP candidate, and there are way too many complications for them to worry about any 2024 match-ups. There is also no indication that anyone other than Biden is going to be the Democratic nominee. Also, DeSantis isn't as popular as they're trying to make us believe. If you put him up against most possible Dem candidates, the Democrat will come out on top. They don't want us to see that. They don't want to dirty up DeSantis any more than he already is, because in the end, Trump isn't going to run, and DeSantis is their guy.

How was HRC polling in 2014? (Were there any 2024 polls of HRC vs. Trump?)

(54,436 posts)Not about Canada and the USA, but rather France and Switzerland. France's new socialist government vastly increased its already crushing bureaucracy, and was already showing serious signs of dysfunction. At one point, when French customs officers started illegally harassing French citizens inside Swiss territory, and were promptly arrested by the Swiss cops, the French even shut down the otherwise open border at Basel.
The novel was based on the Swiss feeling the French pain, as well as having gotten fed up with French harassing French and Swiss citizens inside their country, so the Swiss decided to invade and occupy France to make both countries happier. The Swiss were welcomed with open arms, since the French had never had any kind of functioning bureaucracy since Napoléon. Once the Swiss ran things, everything got much better, and everyone was happy. No more hoards of French tax refugees driving up real estate prices for the Swiss inside Switzerland, and no more domestic chaos in France. The whole thing was meant as a comedy, of course, but that didn't stop lots of people on both sides of the French-Swiss border from wishing it had come true.
