Only someone who fell asleep several months ago and just woke up. It's been nothing but actual, delivered, well documented, verifiable progress for months.. One just needs to wake up and look around.

Presidents can’t fire AGs for failure to prosecute their political enemies. It doesn’t smell right to too many people.

To add additional problems - the confirmation battle, both for her and for a replacement VP, would be a nightmare that could easily leave us with a Republican at the top of the line of succession.

The whole point is that DOJ is supposed to conduct investigations in secret until they are ready to make an indictment.

of the president and can be terminated at any time for any or for no reason. But there is no assurance that a different Attorney General would be confirmed by the Senate. A different person in that position might be an Acting Attorney General only. The Republicans have enough votes in the Senate to block confirmation.

Virtually any decision she makes would be spun as political and she would be a drag on the reelection.

As an added benefit (from their perspective) it throws a massive wrench into the works when we try to appoint a new VP. The selection would immediately jump to the top of the "next in line" conversation when we are far from certain that Biden will run for reelection. I'm not sure that there's anyone who can garner unanimous support in the Senate (and there's no VP tiebreaker). Republicans would have every incentive to block the VP nomination because with that seat empty there is no Senate majority and if they take the House back their selected speaker (who could even be Trump) is next in line if something happens to Biden.

Biden can't fire her or any other elected official for that matter.

Demoting his loyal vice-president would be a case colossal political malpractice. And it would wreck her political career in the process while yielding no political benefit to Biden.

There are plenty of excellent lawyers who could replace Garland but would replacing him make any difference?

Kamala Harris is the Vice President of the United States. She already has a job.

Can we stop, please, with the denigrating of our very good VP and the constant criticism of the AG?

We have midterms to win and this constant running down of Democrats will suppress the vote.

Wed Jul 6, 2022, 07:40 PM

as the J6 Committee gets its findings and files to him before November, he has the time he needs. I'm not sure an indictment of Trump or any of his people would be a good thing before the election as it could bring Trump's base out in droves. Also, Garland may be being very careful not to step of the feet of the J6 Committee. Finally, Garland has to put together a case that can hold up in court, for example, a lot of what Cass Hutchinson said was hearsay and might not be admissible.

is just the ticket. Whatever the Repubs are going to do to cheat, they will do quietly. If it doesn't work, then they will cause trouble anyway. It doesn't matter if we tiptoe through the tulips or not. A strong indictment of Trump et al for seditious activity might actually have the opposite effect, and cause Repubs to stop and think what it all means.

At the very least, it may energize the sluggish among us to try one more time to save the country from fascism. We have to do something.

Perhaps Garland is just waiting for the J6 committee to finish its investigation and presentation to the public.

Of course, other than your gut feeling based on the absence of public information, there is no evidence to support such a move.

Nevertheless, if you feel that strongly, contact the White House, and your representative to demand they begin impeachment hearings for Garland.
