Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker told the National Rifle Association in a Tweet to leave us the hell alone in the wake of a mass shooting that killed seven people in Chicagos Highland Park suburb Monday.
In a tweet Tuesday, the NRA cited recent research from the nonprofit Crime Prevention Research Center, which found that Since 1950, 94% of mass public shootings occurred in gun-free zones.
Pritzker replied: And 100% of mass public shootings happen with guns. As Governor, on behalf of the people of Highland Park leave us the hell alone.

(95,247 posts)Shots ring out from a rooftop, dozens of people in the crowd drop to an alert crouch, producing pistols and even the occasional semi-auto rifle, begin blazing away at wherever each thinks the first shot has come from.
Can this prove out to anything but tragedy limned in farce?
How dim must one be to take such fantasies seriously?

(108,035 posts)Whoever wrote that is not a firearms expert but a gun fetishist. The accuracy of pistols is such that they more likely would have hit a bystander than the shooter.

(95,247 posts)A thought experiment illustrated in words. I quite agree few can shoot a pistol accurately, I believe Churchill said having the muzzle touching the target helped. But that's what most of our intrepid NRA eagles would have on their bodies. And I'm pretty sure the block wouldn't look the same for months and nobody would have plugged whoever'd opened fire in the first place. He might not even hold the lead in tallying who got shot by whom.

If enough of America says, "we're mad and we aren't going to take it anymore," things will change.

(260 posts)For the NRA to make that specific observation is that they want every zone in the USA to be flooded with weapons and shooters.

We think the carnage is unbearable now? If the NRA gets its way - and with the current Supreme Whores in place there's no reason to believe they won't - imagine the Killing Fields type slaughter awaiting us all.
Yeah, fuck off, NRA.

(28,799 posts)gun free zones? let's discuss the states and their laws and the relationship to mass murder. Any zone is by definition no longer gun free when a shooting happens there, because shootings can't happen without guns.
