A group of four paintings from American painter Norman Rockwell have been taken off the walls of the White House, Politico reported on Tuesday.
The paintings are part of the So You Want to See the President series, which features different Americans, including political officials, waiting at the White House to meet with the president.
Politico reported that two people familiar with the matter said the family that owns the paintings wanted to reclaim them and their request was approved last year. Rockwells sketches originated from when he visited the White House in 1943.
The Rockwell works were displayed in the West Wing of the White House.

Rockwell painted from photos.
He considered himself an illustrator rather than an artist. He painted for magazines and ad companies.

His Stockbridge studio was located on the second floor of a row of buildings. Directly underneath Rockwell's studio was, for a time in 1966, the Back Room Rest, better known as the famous "Alice's Restaurant".
J.C. Leyendecker was his predecessor, at magazines and artisically.

Connection: My Dad was a commercial artist and loved the works of Lyendecker. He had a more "Germanic" style than Rockwell. (see his Wikipedia page)

(90,714 posts)That the owners of the Rockwell paintings would like them back tells us nothing, really, except that they want them back at this time.
