Explain it like I'm 5, the benefit of POTUS giving McCain a Medal of Freedom today?

I'm not seeing that the GOPers/White Christian Nationalists/authoriatians are suddenly going to like POTUS or suddenly think that working with POTUS & Democrats is a good thing because a man who died in summer 2018 got a medal. McCain was not especially popular with his party when he died.

I'm missing something here, help me see a different POV

I especially like the part where he gave a thumbs down on the Senate floor.

The repukes thought they had the votes in the bag, they thought poorly.

They had 53 republicans in the senate and they couldn't kill ACA. Give Biden 53 democratic senators and lets see what we can achieve.

He didn't like the procedure the Pukes were using.

“I was thanked for my vote by Democratic friends more profusely than I should have been for helping save Obamacare,” McCain wrote. “That had not been my goal.”

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/obamacare/mccain-hated-obamacare-he-also-saved-it-n904106

"From the beginning, I have believed that Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with a solution that increases competition, lowers costs, and improves care for the American people. The so-called 'skinny repeal' amendment the Senate voted on today would not accomplish those goals. While the amendment would have repealed some of Obamacare's most burdensome regulations, it offered no replacement to actually reform our health care system and deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens. The Speaker's statement that the House would be 'willing' to go to conference does not ease my concern that this shell of a bill could be taken up and passed at any time."

I can completely understand Biden doing this now. The Jan 6 hearings are proving that there are some traditional conservatives in the GOP. This is a normal pick, imo.

Refused to leave until his men were, suffered horrible torture. Cam home greiviously wounded, spent his life in the Senate.

Used his last vote in the Senate while dying of cancer to save the ACA!

You need more? Passed the Feingold/ McCa8n bill to control dark money in politics. The crooked Supremes threw it out!
