Why are Republicans such dicks? (Part 632)

I've been posting that headline for years. And every time I do, they get worse than anyone thought possible. Maybe they're reading these posts and showing us how much we're underestimating them.

Seems they're always a mile ahead of us. We're worried about holding onto the congress in November, and they're already planning how to firmly establish their Christo-Fascist version of America once they win or steal full power.

Their stolen Supreme Court has already fucked us to the point where it will take decades to repair the damage they've done. And if the GOP manages to win/steal the House and/or Senate this year, there will be no way to stop them from winning/stealing the presidency in 2024. We will than be living in the largest fascist/banana republic that ever existed.

And if that comes to be, I place the blame for it fully on us. Our "moral purity" kept us from throwing out the rule book, (the book that has never meant anything to them). Our sense of fairness prevented us from defending democracy from a criminal political party. And our commitment to constitutional law stopped us from doing anything about those who had declared political war on us.

We Democrats have been the biggest suckers in the world. We've been under attack for decades by people who don't give a shit about democracy, the constitution, patriotism, individual rights and freedoms, or anything else that the vast majority of us believe in. They are a well organized minority who know what fools we are and they take advantage of everything we don't do to stop them.

So if you want my version of the world to come, I see them destroying all the hopes, dreams and values we hold for a somewhat Utopian future, and instituting their own pseudo religious, wingnut, cruel, diseased beliefs into law. Will they be able to pull it off? I guess the only alternative will be Civil War 2.0. And I truly hope we'd have the intelligence and courage to stop them before it comes to that. The alternative is a world that none of us would want to live in.

1. We believe in civility, fairness, and the rule of law and they don't. I guess that does put us at

a disadvantage but I don't want to become like them. I don't think we can reason with them but I am still hopeful that we can outvote them into oblivion. Naive-sounding, I know.

and stop caring about their delicate feelings.

Because they want us dead. Literally, they want us dead.

give a whit about their feelings.

10. True. We can be way more forceful, and should.

The OP however, said, "We should throw out the rule book".

How does that sit with you?

The rules for civility within the Congress, were put in because prior to the Civil War, there had been a series of physical altercations between pro-Slavery and Abolitionist candidates.

It seems like Decorum now, but back the origin was to prevent literal bloodshed.

Some in the GOP are certainly talking like they want us dead. It filters down to people with less to lose. Notice that none of the GOP people actually do anything that obviously crosses the line? They play footsies. They are bad people, but they do not cross the line in ways that are obvious. That is because of the rules and the likelihood they would be kicked out of a lucrative gig.

I don't think that people necessarily care about "their delicate feelings". They care about the professionalism and respect that being a representative in the Federal Government entails. They do not want to sink to using the disgusting tactics that Conservatives use.

We should definitely be more blunt and forceful about what Republicans are trying to do. I agree 100% there, but whenever I ask what does, "throwing out the rules...." or "fight like them..." means, I usually get crickets, or I get what you said, which is be more blunt and forceful, which is definitely not either throwing out the rules NOR fighting like them.

12. The problem with "civility" is that it is used

by them to do whatever they please, knowing that rules of civility will keep anyone from responding in kind.

It seems as if our side just sits and watches what they do and aside from a sad shake of the head and an "oh my" there is no real pushback.

If we ignore it, they won't go away. They won't stop.

I keep thinking back to John Kerry and the swift boating. By the time he responded, the damage was done.

That is what civility bought us.

When they lie, we need to say "that is a lie" immediately, loudly, and often, instead of soft peddling it (untruthful/misleading) or ignoring it in the name of civility.

I don't mean we should become like them. But we sure as hell can't go on behaving the way we have toward them.

Once in a while, you've got to run a red light. We're too cautious to do that. With them, it's a way of life.

between us. Our beliefs/values/ethics are so different, that I often wonder if we are descended from the same species. Who knows. Perhaps some people evolve more rapidly than others. (Oh, sorry. They don't believe in that evolution thingy.)

They have a different world view than us. They see a world as "survival of the fittest with an AR-15." We don't.

But let me be honest here. We are dealing with educated Republican leaders who know that they're playing to the worst instincts, of people who don't know any better. They're playing to their fears, their racism, their bigotry, their lack of intelligence and their lack of decency. They know that those they're performing for are, for the most part, uneducated, and incapable of grasping that the Republicans are convincing them to fuck themselves from taxes, to minimum wages, all the way to stealing their freedoms.
