Many Americans pay anywhere from $300 - $500 per month for insulin.
With CAs insulin, that cost would - at a minimum - be cut in HALF.
People should not go in into debt to get life-saving medication.

(6,395 posts)They have to negotiate with Pharmaceutical companies on the price and if you ask me, there is probably some serious price fixing going on.
Having a State alternative despite Pharma, could turn California into a semi-Canada/Mexico.
Then again, the Health Insurance companies could oppose it as they may think this is one step towards single payer.
Yeah, I just contradicted myself and confused everyone more.

Big Pharma is one part of the health care problem. Profiteering insurance companies, hospitals, physicians' groups, labs, etc. should all be on the public radar.

As for the number of diabetics, roughly 3.2 million have officially been disagnosed with it. And perhaps another 800k who haven't been officially disagnosed, in line with numbers for the US as a whole.
