regarding Putin: what do you think?

...I say,

...let it be known publicly and in the highest circles of the Kremlin that any Russian nuclear attack on the West will produce a complete and immediate retaliatory response that will turn Russia, it's friends and allies, into a nuclear cinder...prepare the nuclear arsenals accordingly and be prepared to use them...

...then let it be known publicly, NATO will immediately prepare a Russian invasion force to de-Nazify Russia and remove the dictator Putin from power with conventional armament...

...let the Russian generals decide who they love more, Putin or Russia...let the Chinese leadership decide who they love more, Russia or China...the world order will not withstand endless years of Putin and his crimes...our democratic coalitions will fall apart...

...I believe if left unchecked or unaddressed Putin will ultimately drag the world into a nuclear holocaust anyway...

...we need to call Putin's bluff and remove him from the world's stage like we did Hitler...Putin will continue to blackmail and expand his aggression until we stop him...

...it's like 1939 all over again but with nukes...

strike will be met with a nuclear response. They also know that the response will be massive, intended to take out all their known nuclear weapons. We would not give them a second chance to launch against us or NATO.
If Putin is insane enough to use nuclear weapons, we will be in a nuclear war. Putin can figure out the consequences, we don't have to tell him and we shouldn't.

I rather suspect that they bet the opposite--not by a huge margin, but marginally good odds.

Senior U.S. officials said that Biden has decided not to follow through on his 2020 pledge to declare that the sole purpose of nuclear weapons is to deter a nuclear attack against the United States or its allies. Instead, he approved a version of a policy from the Obama administration that leaves open the option to use nuclear weapons not only in retaliation to a nuclear attack, but also to respond to non-nuclear threats.

Destroy the social order and leave? With bombers and cruise missiles, you could kill the tsar from 300 miles away.

Punish and depart? Sure.

Conquer, occupy, and annex the territory? Don't know that's in the context.

The first two would be a mistake. The third, idiocy.

Fourth: Conquer much of European Russia and "sue for peace"--a Putinesque tactic. Annex just part of the territory. After all, it's the Russians' fault, they forced us. Plus a it used to be Ukrainian or Lithuanian territory. Hear that, China--just retaking what's theirs!

Nuclear war with Russia means lights out... game over, right?

Let me clarify.

If nukes fly... then ALL nukes fly. That means human (and most animal) life on the planet dies.

There will be no world order or Russian Invasion Force (lmao BTW)

Just death.

...knows there is no chance we'll ever use nuclear weapons he will threaten and/or use nukes with impunity..

...if there is no circumstance we would ever use nuclear weapons then why do we have them?

...it would be Putin who would initiate a nuclear attack...and we would respond in kind under any circumstance...

...letting Putin know we're coming for him with only conventional weapons would leave nuclear war up to him and his generals, exactly where it is right now...one way or another Putin will force the world to remove him from power...

...I'm not advocating nuclear war and I didn't create the situation...don't blame me for the world we live in...

...by all means feel free to do so.

But drag the rest of us in a gambit that will only result in a nuclear holocaust. There. Is. No. Winning. In. A. Nuclear. Exchange.

The entire Cold War was predicated on that and they had to find other ways and means. We may be in Cold War II and have to do it all over again, but lets keep it that way instead of turning the survivors into refugees.

1939 was far too late for such a pre-emptive invasion, just as it is far too late now.

...what you mean but it sounds like Putin dictates the outcome...

...let's say Putin declares that on Saturday at noon if NATO doesn't stop supporting Ukraine he will start using tactical nukes on Ukrainian cities...or maybe he'll start bombing NATO supply lines in other countries...

...what do we do?

...not going to happen?

...what if it does?
