5. I cried when I read her book

She is such an utterly amazing human being.

I got to hear Mark give a speech about being an astronaut at a Town Hall a couple years ago and she came out on stage at the end with a big smile and wave and a few words, the entire auditorium full of people stood up and cheered. So moving.

I had just celebrated the new year with her and Mark a few days before, and we were going to have dinner in Washington a week later. I didn’t see her for two years after that, but I needn’t have worried. She saw me from across the room, motioned for me to come over with her good arm and grabbed me like nothing had ever happened. It’s still Gabby inside there.
