from Jamie Raskin:

Today Rep. Fletcher, Rep. Strickland & I introduced the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. Our bill will protect the constitutional right to travel across state lines to obtain an abortion. We won’t allow extremists on or off the Court to block the free travel of women in America.

“ Any state that allows a vigilante law suit against a pregnant person who travels across state lines for reproductive services are liable to pay the victim of the vigilante action 10x the original judgment amount, free of any state or local taxes and fees plus attorney costs. Any person who instituted the vigilante law suit against the pregnant person who crossed state lines to receive legal medical assistance is liable for up to $100k plus attorney fees for interfering with the pregnant person’s right to participate in interstate commerce. “

So much of this recent flurry or RW nonsense has not really be thought through. They haven't wanted it to be viewed in a public forum where any faults could be shown.

This will destroy all of their efforts in the end if their attempts are brought before a serious court.

However, if they make it to this current 6-3 SCOTUS, you know how the dice are loaded.

But Alito can come channel George Mason or another anti-federalist or maybe find something St. Bernard of Clairvaux indicating that the interstate commerce clauses of the constitution don't apply when he doesn't want them to.

What do you suppose those seances are like, or do they use a Ouija board? How many candles do you need for a black mass?

Justice matters.

Pass this bill, then let the process begin. If the rethug court strikes it down, expand the court and overturn their decision.

And pass this bill of course. But if we have the votes next year, both PR and DC need to become states. PR is not guaranteed to always cote in Democrats, but they deserve the representation and protection of being a state. So does DC. A majority of its residents now have nothing to do with the federal government, and they have a population bigger than Wyoming.

Making both states could help Democrats hold on to power long enough to actually address climate warming, fossil fuel emissions, personal and civil rights, and a whole host of other issues that have been ignores for years.

If the right to travel and access to birth control are taken away from women, we are truly enslaved.
