“Some key House Democrats think they’ve found a clever way to break Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s stranglehold on a popular bill to massively fund the U.S. chip industry at the expense of China,” Axios reports.

“The potential countermove is to bring the Senate-passed China bill to the House floor for an up-or-down vote and deprive McConnell of his hostage.”

“The risky gambit would require buy-in from almost every House Democrat, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who fiercely protects the House’s priorities.”

"The risky gambit" - the "risk" is the bill doesn't pass.

"from almost every House Democrat" - there's a slim Democratic majority in the House - passing a bill there requires the vote of "almost every House Democrat".

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who fiercely protects the House’s priorities.” - Why think Pelosi would oppose this? Is she opposed to the bill?

why do you think this is necessarily a good thing for Dems to do?

Again, not being conversant with the goings on, I did read that...

"Passage is a victory for Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat who co-wrote and strongly backed the measure"

Those formal negotiations were making slow — but tangible — progress, until McConnell decided to take the China competition bill hostage by vowing to kill it if Democrats kept chasing a climate, energy and prescription drug reform bill with Manchin.

McConnell's threat officially turned into action on Wednesday, when Senate negotiators began to cancel meetings with their House counterparts, National Journal first reported and Axios confirmed.

I want the climate, energy and prescription drug bill to still happen right now. Obviously McConnell is afraid 'it might come to pass'. Money for science can be voted on in the years to come. We need our current majority in the House to pass law to help climate, energy and prescription drug bill become law now. Will reduce inflation.
